Constant turnover (40%+), supervisors that lack leadership and effective management skills, bloated upper management, daily depression and anxiety for most who work here.
Support from management
Leadership is severely lacking; they have hired outside organizations to come in and educate/train them; wasting taxpayers money and the efforts of others.
There are people, and departments, that are known for not working well with others, spreading gossip and purposefully stabbing others in the back. There are a number of departments within, each run by a VP, and each is completely isolated from the others in most day-to-day matters.
Upper management loves to say that they constantly are communicating, however they do not communicate what concerns the vast majority of other people employed.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Any new hires seen were between the ages of 25-35 for lower positions, middle-aged WASPs for upper management positions.
This is were good people go to have their careers killed. Only the terribly untalented thrive.
Overall compensation for your work
By far, the highlight because typically the WEDC's attitude is to "throw money" at a problem – so if they need a position filled (which is about every 3 weeks), they will just throw money and state benefits to lure someone in. However, within 3 months you either fit in, or regret it and no amount of money will make your choice any better.
Office / Work Environment
IT tech support is terrible and constantly changing protocols. Upper management also subscribes to the same ethos of just "making it up as they go."
Pressure is given top-down to work until "the job is done," however, typically the process is so terrible, work gets scrapped late in the game or worse yet, gets overblown by egotistical managers who want something done that doesn't need to be done.
Just read the newspapers. Google them. Seriously. There hardly isn't a single nice news article written.
There is no job security for a place so highly scrutinized and close to being dissolved.
There is an elevator in the building. Building maintenance is good.
Absolutely not. There were literally only a handful of projects there that truly helped small businesses and would be supported by any in the public sector.
Inclusive / Diverse
No. They have very, very few of any ethnic background working there. Anyone who reads the paper knows that the business goals of this organization is Corporate Welfare.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of all the upper management, restructure and get rid of 60% of the divisions there.
What I like about the company
There is very little to like.
What I dislike about the company
There is too much to explain in detail what there isn't to like. Just simply avoid this place at all costs.
