What I like
I have known my boss for approximately 3 years. Everyone has their issues including me. When he started this company about 1.5 years ago, I was there from almost the beginning. He and I fight like brother and sister and have a love/hate relationship. When the chips are down, he would cross just about any line to take care of me and my kids. I can say that for a messed up crazy person (me) I could not ask for a better messed up crazy person (boss) to be my family, friend, and boss.
I feel like I am fortunate that I get to be out on my own delivering food while I listen to music, talk on the phone, and do just about anything that I want while I am not busy. If I am at a restaurant close to home, if there are no orders, I hang out at home and they call me when they have a delivery. I go shopping and take naps. I love doing what I do. I hate it when I have a bad week and think about having to go get a "job"!!! I don't ever want to get a real job again.
What I dislike
I feel like many people in this business expect miracles. Some restaurants expect that you can pull off miracles. They are very insensitive when it comes to reality that there are other restaurants. Although, we are doing our jobs as quickly as possible, and we informed everyone involved that they are not the only company we deliver for. Every one of us is human and that tends to slip peoples minds. You can't always predict how busy a particular night will be and sometimes people don't show up to work and leave you short-handed.
Employees think of this as a place that they can just do as they please. They just don't treat this as a job and don't show up to work or when they do, they will just disappear and not answer their phones. THEY ARE TOO INDEPENDENT. When you call one of them to cover a shift on their day off, they don't think of the person on the other end of the phone who hasn't had a day off in several weeks and is now trying to deliver for 3 restaurants by him or her self.
Suggestions for improvement
I feel like all of us should be more thoughtful of others. Mentioning no names, but, including the owners of the restaurants, the owner of Xoom Xoom, myself especially and all the way down to the newest employees. We don't think of being in the other person's shoes and what they are going through. Walk a mile in mine and I will walk a mile in yours.
