I cannot definitively say, as I was automatically filtered into a reject category within two hours of submitting my application online late on Wednesday evening even though I met all minimum qualifications and one of the two preferred qualifications. If that one preferred qualification I did not posses was the issue, they need to specify that as a minimum qualification instead of a preferred.
Suggestions for improvement
- Be very clear on what exactly you're willing to accept or consider for a position you are trying to fill. It makes no sense that all minimum qualifications are met and one of two preferred are met yet without anybody taking the time to look at, the application is filtered and rejected. If the one preferred qualification was enough to filter a rejection of the application, then it needs to be listed as a minimum qualification, not a preferred one. Additionally, when I contacted Zachry in San Antonio for some direction as to what happened, they referred me to a 1800jobs number. I've never, in my life, been referred to a call center to speak with someone in HR. Nobody answered the phone at this call center, either. I was prompted to leave a voicemail with my question, name and callback number and an agent was to reply within 24 hours, per instructions precious to my being able to leave the message. I left a detailed message and stated my name and number more than once, for extra assurance. I never received a call back. Overall this was the most unprofessional and confusing application process I've ever been through. I know people, personally, who work for Zachry and even they were confused by the unprofessionalism and unclear desire by the company for the applicant in the position I applied for.
