Great colleagues, incompetent leadership

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Great colleagues who try to keep the system running, some really good people managers, amazing office in Hamburg

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Not only pretend to care for people and equality, but actually DO care for them.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Atmosphere used to be great, but leadership has brought it to an all-time low.
Employees feel demotivated, unappreciated, and disconnected from the company. They experience stress due to newly introduced measures of how to make them accountable and faster, and also due to poor communication, unclear expectations, and lack of support from management.

Kommunikation

Leadership is only superficially responsive to feedback and concerns from the employees. They pretend to care, but their responses are textbook and even ironic even though they respond to real questions and needs of employees. This resulted in confusion and frustration among the employees.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

There is a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration among colleagues.

Work-Life-Balance

Working hours are flexible and working remotely is widely possible. However, there is a lot of (time-)pressure for some tasks that impact my work-life-balance negatively.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

As everywhere else, there are good and bad managers at XING. Some of them really care about their directs while keeping product delivery in mind and fulfilling the goals, others are unclear about expectations and don't value the needs and concerns of their employees.

Gleichberechtigung

In the recent mass layoffs at XING, "social factors" were legally binding. However, it resulted in laying off married couples, female part-timers, colleagues with several young children,... When talking about hiring a new CTO, unconscious bias like "we are looking for a new guy, don't worry, he will be great". Don't forget that language creates reality.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

There are not a lot of older colleagues, but my experience was good so far.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Average salary, but a very crazy salary process that doesn't really reward every individual. You have to hope that your people manager likes you so you will receive your share.
Benefits are really great though!

Image

The image of XING has gone down a lot in the last years which is also a reason for the recent mass layoffs. A great group of colleagues is working towards making it better again!

Karriere/Weiterbildung

There is an annual budget for every colleague, however, those are mainly on hold or reduced at the moment.

Arbeitgeber-Kommentar

Julia Rosteck

Dear colleague,

Thank you for sharing your insights on your time at XING. Your feedback is genuinely appreciated, and I want to address the concerns you've raised with the same sincerity.
I'm pleased to hear that you value the dedication of your colleagues and acknowledge the positive aspects of our Hamburg office. However, I'm sorry to learn about the challenges you've faced with leadership and the impact on the overall work atmosphere.

Your comments about demotivation, stress, and feelings of disconnection among employees are concerning. Creating a positive work environment is a priority for us, and we are actively working on improving leadership communication and support. Your feedback is crucial in shaping these improvements, and we take it to heart.
Regarding your suggestions for improvement, we are committed to fostering a culture that genuinely cares for the well-being and equality of our employees. It's crucial for us to move beyond mere intentions and actively demonstrate our commitment.
I can share with you that our leadership regularly seeks feedback through various channels, and we encourage open communication in 1:1s as well as through company-wide shoutouts. We understand that leadership employee relationships are unique to each individual, and we want to encourage an open dialogue at all times.
Your observations about the recent layoffs, salary processes, and concerns about unconscious bias are noted. Layoffs are strategic decisions made to ensure the long-term stability of the company, and we are actively working to improve transparency in our communication.

We are actively working at our image to shape a new direction for the company, with the launch of XING 3.0 as a job platform. This initiative is part of our commitment to transforming and enhancing the XING experience.
Thank you for your dedication and contributions to the XING team. Your feedback is integral to our ongoing efforts to make positive changes. Please feel free to reach out if you have more insights or suggestions.

Warm regards,
Julia from the Employer Branding Team
