Verbesserungsvorschläge

For internal improvement, I recommend the company address inconsistencies in standards, foster clearer communication channels, ensure timely adherence to schedules, and uphold commitments.

Prospective applicants should be aware that Zurich Instruments has been acquired by Rohde & Schwarz, which is leading to evolving processes, including in recruitment. Candidates will be asked to give a 15-20 minute presentation detailing their professional journey, notable projects pertinent to the role, and their reasons for wanting to join ZI. The primary focus of this presentation should be on demonstrating impactful projects, particularly those relevant to the position. Don't be fooled by that point coming last in the letter you may or may not receive from HR. The distinction between "formal" and "informal" interviews should not be a point of confusion.

Bewerbungsfragen

  • The interview process heavily utilizes the STAR format, which is integrated with the company's three foundational values. Candidates should anticipate being stress-tested with questions designed to explore knowledge and skills not explicitly detailed on their CV. A valuable aspect of the hiring journey is an informal opportunity to engage with the team. Please note that the interview schedule does not include designated breaks; it is advisable to use transitions between sessions for brief recovery.
  • Candidates should anticipate a "Tech Scan" interview, which for me involved a panel of four interviewers. This segment features wide-ranging questions and a fast tempo, limiting opportunities for detailed responses due to the quick succession of inquiries from different participants. Preparation for this section should include a review of Electrical Engineering fundamentals and Lock-in Amplifiers, irrespective of prior academic focus. Additionally, a coding task is administered, which can be completed on your personal laptop—a helpful accommodation. However, the lack of direct observation/communication during this task may hinder the assessment of a candidate's real-time problem-solving and critical thinking. The process also includes an HR interview (as detailed previously) and a presentation followed by a spontaneous Q&A from attendees.
  • Edit: In a reply to this post, ZI has claimed, "While we always offer breaks, we’ll improve by adding more structured pauses." While my experience with them was positive in other respects, this statement was not true in my case. My final interview schedule included no structured breaks. Furthermore, when I mentioned I was acoustically exhausted midway through my concern was unfortunately ignored. I am happy to read that they want to change that.

Thank you for your updated feedback.
We accept it and will improve, e.g. by adding breaks to the official written schedule.
We have always sent the agenda like this and when we host the candidate in our office for the Interview, we simply ask if she/he needs a break in between the parts.
To be completely fair, we always try to be empathetic and accommodating during our Interviews, we know how stressful they may be for some.
In your case, I am sorry to hear that you felt ignored - that was definitely not anyone's intention! On the other hand, maybe you remember, we also spontaneously asked to sit on the other side of yours to make a better experience for you (First Interview) and you positively admitted it is rarely happening to you or immediately closed the windows due to noise when you asked us (Second Interview). We wish you all the best.

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your open and detailed feedback. We truly appreciate the effort you put into the process and understand how disappointing it can be to not be selected after reaching the final round. Your engagement meant a lot to us.

To address a few of your points:

Tech Scan & Content:
As a company operating in the field of precision electronics, it’s natural that our interviews include Electrical Engineering basics and topics like Lock-in Amplifiers. Even if it’s not your core focus, this reflects the nature of our work and the products we build.

Interview Format & Flow:
The structure, from personal background to project details (presentation part), is designed to follow a logical flow and not to suggest what’s more or less important. We care equally about your skills and who you are.

Pace & Breaks:
We understand the Tech Scan can feel fast-paced, especially with several interviewers. While we always offer breaks, we’ll improve by adding more structured pauses.

Timing of Feedback:
We aim to respond within two weeks. In summer, slight delays can happen due to vacations and that the staff is limited, and we’re sorry if this affected your experience.

Company Info (R&S Acquisition):
This is something we communicate on our website and in various materials for those interested in learning more about us.

We’re committed to creating a respectful, transparent candidate experience, even in a high-stakes setting. Your feedback helps us do better. Thanks again, and all the best in your journey ahead!
