Suggestions for improvement

I observed the development of smec over the years and I find it very disappointing how the company has lost its appreciation for employees. If you don’t question anything, keep your head down and focus on doing your job, it can still be a good workplace. smec used to be a role model for a strong corporate culture, but employees are now increasingly treated as interchangeable.
A recent example of this is the treatment of a former employee who played a pivotal role in the daily office routine. After a long search, the position was filled with a dedicated and professional individual who fostered a positive atmosphere and quickly became an indispensable part of the team! Despite this, she was publicly treated unfairly by her team manager. smec tried to keep this a secret, but it was obvious because some incidents occurred publicly or in open spaces with witnesses.
Despite this, the employee remained professional and committed until her final day. Her departure left a clear mark. Her successor is trying her best but she lacks the experience and dedication of her predecessor. Her youth and inexperience can have been factors in her selection as she seems to be easier to influence and not have a backbone

Employer Comment

Dear smecie,

Thank you for your feedback. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We are sorry to hear that you’ve had negative perceptions. We take all feedback seriously, especially when it comes to the work atmosphere and the treatment of our employees.

First and foremost, we would like to address your comments regarding a former colleague. Departures are always very personal matters, and out of respect for everyone involved, we do not discuss individual cases publicly. However, it is important to emphasize that there are always two sides to every story. At the same time, we firmly believe that publicly criticizing the successor – an uninvolved person – under the guise of anonymity and making unfounded accusations is not the right approach.

We are surprised about your rating and comments and would like to respond to them:
- Clear and transparent communication is a priority for us. We have dedicated formats that allow employees to engage, share concerns, and stay informed. Open discussions are encouraged at all levels.
- Change is an integral part of smec. In our fast-moving industry, adaptability is key. While change can be challenging, it is necessary for innovation and growth. This also means that decisions may evolve as we continuously refine our approach to stay competitive and forward-thinking.
- We foster an open-door culture. Our leadership and People & Culture teams are always available for discussions, ensuring employees feel heard and supported.
- We offer much more than just great equipment. Our modern office, health and well-being programs, team events, breakfast and lunch offerings, and highly flexible work options create a supportive and inspiring work environment.
- Personal development is a key focus. We provide structured career paths and dedicated formats to support continuous learning and personal growth.

We sincerely invite you to share direct feedback if you have specific suggestions or concerns. We are always striving to improve and create a positive work environment. Your input is valuable to us, and we would appreciate the opportunity to have an open conversation with you.

Kind regards,
Sabine
