Inefficient company, frustration prevails. Budget gets wasted in overblown processes and dispensable management

The interesting domain.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The dramatic short-termism.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The pressure to deliver immediate revenue jeopardized the work experience. The daily business, at all levels, must be on short-term target. Even if something doesn't make sense on the long run, or even damages the company, it has to be done ASAP anyway. Skilled people have to put their brain aside and deliver what required.
We had a skilled Lead Software Architect, who was leading the IT to a more scalable and stable architecture, but they let him go without a plausible explanation or a replacement.

Image

Outside: End customers usually choose competitors because of the high prices of the DCS. Partners are chronically angry because projects get delivered with big delay.

Inside: after the layoff of external and internal employees, despite a future-proof industry, the image can't be good.

Work-Life-Balance

Good, but in case of important failures, which happens not rarely, you have to work also at night until things get right again.
But if you don't invest in system quality, that's what you get.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

There is a yearly budget that usually gets withdrawn in the second half of the year because of cuts to the main budget.

Gehalt/Benefits

Salary increases has been reduced to the minimum due to the financial situation. The problem is that the company pays high salaries for some people in high positions that is not clear how the bring the company forward. They are only about the internal processes of the company, without actually contributing to projects. A whole well-payed layer is considered to be useless by most of the operative people, and this hurts when your salary increase request gets rejected because of budget shortage.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Good, the business is about EV-charging.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The company has very capable employees, as mentioned before, but also others that I don't understand what they do the whole day. The are some that simply take part at some remote meetings, the camera is turned off and they don't say a word. If you ask them about anything concerning the topic, they show that they simply didn't listen. And they don't even deliver any other kind of work that they could have possibly done during that time.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

There is nothing to say here neither.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Unfortunately, managers don't have the technical skills to really assess what's going on. They have to rely on explanations given by someone else and on the base of that they form their own opinion.
They also don't have much leeway in decision-making, as the race to break even is the only criterion.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Good office, also because they improved the equipment last year. Sometimes it gets too full because of the rule 3d/w in the office.

Kommunikation

The weekly all-hands is similar to a war bulletin and contributes to exasperation.

Gleichberechtigung

Nothing to say.

Interessante Aufgaben

No room for the real improvements that the company would need to gain a better position on the market. Just profit-making features in a quick'n'dirty way at cost of the system architecture, continuously increasing the tech debts.

Dear DigiCharger,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We're all about making DCS the best place to work, and your input helps us get there.

DCS is currently on a very exciting journey as we plan to become the first profitible e-mobility service provide out there. In order to reach our goals, we as a business need to make decisions that support our mission, whether it is priorization, allocating resources wisely or changes in general - also in personel.

Increasing efficiency is one of our highest priority and last year we started with re-launching the Total Focused Company framework and can already see positive changes, especially when it comes to reducing number of meetings. Also the rule of two feet was iplemented to encourage our DigiChargers to leave a meeting if they cannot add any value to it.

Our growth framework with annual performance reviews is designed to ensure fair treatment when it comes to salary increases and level adjustment based on actual performance. This framework is being continuously refined to ensure the most effective evaluation.

We understand the importance of learning and development, which is why we allocate a budget that employees can utilize throughout the entire year. As you mentioned, it happened only once in the past, when in the month of October we had to freeze the budget but everyone had 10 months time to spend it wisely. With the beginning of the next year, employees had again access to their L&D budget.

Furthermore, our Leadership Charging Journey was launched last year to support and upskill our leaders and we are already witnessing positive impacts.

Once again, we appreciate your feedback and assure you that we are committed to addressing the issues raised to create a better working environment for all employees. As a scale up company we are going though challenges typical to this phase but are sure that with great employees we can tackle them.

Great work and great people in general. Topics are very interesting and everyone is trying their best. Also last year's introduction of the
36 hour work week in exchange for not granting any salary increases was a fair deal in my opinion.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The ongoing organizational changes and the vocabulary used for communicating concepts makes it feel like a business consultant from one of those consultant companies like McKinsey infiltrated the company and needs to justify his or her existence. But that is only annoying, not a deal breaker.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Stop pivoting and changing priorities like a headless chicken and stop restructuring the company what feels like every quarter. It's just awful and annoying. Pick a lane. The reasons for reorganizations are always communicated and often make sense somewhere. But at this point it feels like change for the sake of change and it starts to influence confidence in the management.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Strongly depends on the lead. Other than that, have fun being monitored on office attendance. For this they will check the logs of the worst desk booking tool in existence. Also, don't forget, the company needs to increase revenue for the shareholders! You must deliver! As if the employees have an influence on the fact that people are not buying cars during a recession and are charging their cars less.

Image

Employees became more critical over the past year. Recent events, even if they were necessary from an economic POV, further pushed employees towards being critical of their employer. However there are also some who are very positive.

Work-Life-Balance

It's very hard to explain this one for someone outside the company because of the overly complex model for working hours - which is kind of symbolic for many other topics. But it depends on the lead and your area of work.
The 36 hour work week is great if you have a family. But there are also weird restrictive rules that are attached to it.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

It's a company that enables car charging and is owned by car manufacturers and BP. What else is there to say?

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Again, depends on your lead. There are attempts to introduce some kind of general career advancement system, but it doesn’t go beyond the typical corporate bs-bingo and is more of a nuisance than an improvement. Creating „goals“ that are just translated into being the owner of an associated Jira issue does not make a lot of sense.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Some leads are great. Some are atrocious.
Same goes for the „leadership board" aka C-level.
You better have a great lead that is reasonable and has common sense. Otherwise you are fully exposed to braindead decisions and rules.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The office days are the worst. If you ever worked in an office with an open concept and a desk booking system you know what to expect. Since teams are mostly split between Munich and Berlin almost every meeting happens via teams anyway. Just awful. At least there are only two mandatory office days.

Kommunikation

Numbers and general direction are being communicated just fine if you ignore the typical corporate crayon abuse for portraying trajectories. Communication of almost any other topic is lackluster to say the least. Often makes it necessary to apply Hanlon's razor to not become angry with leadership.

Interessante Aufgaben

Very interesting work, often I don’t know what I’d like to do next since there is so much interesting and also important stuff going on.

Was a nice Place, but now pressure and unfair practices are key values

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

That the switch to electric mobility is supported, even the company itself is doing that more out of business interests than out of an actual vision for a green future.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Permanent demand, and nothing in return.
Constant reorgs and fluctuations, and also constantly changing business plans.
And of course the permanent control and pressure.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Start to be fair. Working should be a partnership build on trust, not one side with 0 trust permanently demanding and taking - without granting any compensation or benefits in response.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Permanent tracking, pressure, and confrontations with violations of labour law and work contract rules are what can be expected.

Image

Look at customer reviews and listen into the market.
Lucky to be big, but that's it.

Work-Life-Balance

Officially you have only 36 hours and 4 days to work. Unofficially you do more and overtime is not compensated, and you can not even take the time off.
If you work enough Monday to Thursday to take the Friday off but then get sick or have to finish urgent tasks even that hours are just taken as donation.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Growth budget got decreased and decreased, and meanwhile it's more existing on paper with a bureaucratic process rather than you would actually get it.
Besides that it's now so small it's anyhow not worth it, since you will have to pay on top.

Gehalt/Benefits

You can count the reduction of working hours last year as salary increase, but this came with high pressure and is not permanently secured.
In the end likely this will be the second year without increase.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Even being in a green sector, there are no incentives for green behavior.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

In general good, but due to permanent pressure, restructure, fluctuations and lay offs it's hard to stay connected .

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Better don't get sick.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Behavior trickles down.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Useless office rules where you just have to be in the crowded space, and then can deal with a noisy environment or stay without oxygen in a phone booth.

Kommunikation

There is a lot of communication, but it's not worth anything. The real decisions happen in the background.

Gleichberechtigung

Salary is just depending on individual negotiations, and especially between teams things can be pretty different.

Interessante Aufgaben

Mastering chaos might be interesting, but in the end not satisfying.

Break-Even erreicht – Mission erfüllt, Team entlassen

1,1

Seit zwei Jahren keine Gehaltserhöhungen – immerhin konsequent.

A Masterclass in Unprofessionalism

1,4

The convenient location near a Kaufland market other than that, there wasn’t much else worth mentioning.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The company’s approach to management is truly impressive, with its anti-professionalism, lack of communication skills, blatant favoritism, unjust promotions, and raises, all wrapped up under the ironic title of 'People and Culture' for a HR department that seems to have little understanding of either.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Everyone in a managerial role, as well as those working in HR, should undergo effective and respectful communication training. Also it’s just priceless how some of these comments on Kununu appear to be carefully crafted to inflate the rating average especially when you realize they’re coming from HR. Talk about 'professionalism' at its finest!

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Attractive location

Work-Life-Balance

I was glad there was no overtime, but unfortunately, the psychological overtime never ended.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Team spirit was so low, I wasn’t sure if I had colleagues or just a bunch of people accidentally working in the same building.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

There was a clear pattern of gender discrimination, accompanied by unprofessional promotion practices and the appointment of unqualified and emotionally unstable individuals to leadership positions. I also became aware through firsthand accounts of a misconduct case that was deliberately covered up.

Kommunikation

Noone has this skill. Especially high management and HR.

Gehalt/Benefits

There was a clear lack of fairness and transparency in salary distribution and promotions. While some employees were repeatedly overlooked for raises or career advancement without explanation, others received them without clear merit or criteria. These inconsistent and unjust practices led to a demotivating and unequal work environment.

Gleichberechtigung

Expat workers were treated unequally.

Interessante Aufgaben

If only leadership board approves it. No initiative support.

Thank you for sharing your experience—we appreciate you taking the time to provide such detailed feedback.

We're particularly sorry to hear that your concerns were directed so strongly at our People and Culture department and our communication practices. This is something we take personally and seriously. We would truly appreciate the opportunity to better understand the specific situations behind your comments so we can address them directly—please feel free to reach out to us via pac@digitalchargingsolutions.com.

We also want to emphasize that it’s unfair to assume we are faking reviews. We do not instruct or incentivize employees to leave reviews, nor do we write them on their behalf. When reviews come from members of our team, they are often clearly attributed to HR department, and we believe in allowing everyone to share their perspectives authentically. We kindly ask that your criticism remains fact-based rather than assumption.

On the topic of equality and inclusion, we’ve also taken concrete steps this year to increase gender diversity in leadership. This has been a transparent goal for us, and we’re proud to share that in the last six months alone, two women have taken on new leadership roles within the company. We know it’s only a start, but we’re committed to doing better and being better.

Thank you again for your feedback. Wishing you all the best in your next steps and future endeavors.

Your comments about micromanagement, the pressure to always be online, and the overall impact on mental well-being and work-life balance are deeply troubling. That’s certainly not the environment we aim to create, and it’s feedback like this that pushes us to reflect and improve.

Opened and straightforward – everyone tries to listen to you, so there is a chance for impact when you are a new joiner. The overall experience is heavily influenced by your manager, and if you have a supportive one, it makes all the difference.

I've had the pleasure of working with an outstanding manager who truly made a positive impact on my time here. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds.

In the hiring process, the recruiter was amazing. She provided the best hiring experience I've had in my career. She really knows the company and its work, and was able to answer some technical questions. Her friendly and approachable demeanor created a fantastic first impression.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

There have been changes in the organization staff that sometimes happen without consulting developers, and I believe a larger circle in decision-making could help ensure all perspectives are considered.

There’s noticeable technical debt within the company, but I view this as an opportunity for us to improve and rewrite certain aspects, which could take the company to the next level.
