Chargery is growing every single day and as it keeps growing I hope that it will remain its strong culture and team cohesion. I would go back to chargery at any point in time!
Starting at Chargery you feel like you become a part of a family. However, this does not mean sitting together and sipping coffee all day. This means working in a team of several purpose-driven individuals who give 110% every day and I can guarantee you that their drive and motivation will inspire you as well. Everyone is doing a really good job and they will expect the same from you.
At chargery trust is key. You will have your own projects that you assume the responsibility for and it is up to you when you work on it and how many hours you spend on it. It is not about the time spent at the office but about the impact you can have. You prefer to start working at 10:00 but therefore stay a bit longer? You want to go to your yoga class on Tuesdays at 14:00? Your new sofa is being delivered at some point on Wednesday so you will work from home? Absolutely fine, they trust you that you will deliver on your projects regardless of when you are at the office. However, being at the office with everyone else is so much fun anyways that you probably will try and be there during regular office hours anyways ;-)
No one expects you to work crazy hours, to pull an all-nighter or work on the weekends. Your private life and well-being are respected and extremely important!
Needless to say that this is a 5/5 as the whole purpose of the company is to promote a sustainable future of mobility. These are not empty words but this is the purpose everyone is aligned with and I judge this as extremely important. This is what drives and motivates the whole team.
Could not have asked for a better team. Everyone is open-minded, friendly and up for a good laugh. I could go on and on about how nice everyone is but that wouldn't prove much, would it? The best proof there is, is the fact that even months after leaving I am still in contact with colleagues as colleagues turned into friends, who ask when I am coming back to chargery. And even months after I still talk about chargery as 'we' and not as 'they'.
As I worked at the intersection of two departments (business development & operations) I technically had two superiors. Both were extremely knowledgable und supported me in my tasks. I never had the impression of being treated as an "intern" I was always treated respectfully as a full part of the team just as everyone else. As it is a start-up, hierarchies are flat and decision-making paths are short, which makes it so much fun. Even superiors are super flexible and spontaneous. The start-up environment also means that there is a lot going on, which is why sometimes I had to fight for being given attention on my projects, but slack time would also be a bad sign anyways. I have learned a lot from my superiors/mentors and we had a respectful and trusting relationship.
When I started at the old office it was a typical Berlin start-up environment, with 1 big room where everyone was sitting together at 2 big desks, 1 meeting room and a kitchen. During my stay we grew rapidly with more and more colleagues joining which maximised the capacity of the office. However, they have recently moved to a very spacious new office which I haven't seen yet, therefore, my impression on this is not up-to-date. It is not a big corporate so you won't find cubicles, but you will find a collaborative environment where you can do both, work focused on your own or work together with your team.
During weekly stand-up's we kept each other informed on the progress of individual projects so that colleagues from different departments stay up-to-date (this occurred within the Berlin team). Once a month, we also looked at the current status from a larger scale taking into account all locations. Big wins such as opening up a new location or a new milestone in the number of serviced rides are celebrated all together. Overall, strategic goals could be communicated more transparently, but that is up to the superiors to decide how much and when they want to share it, which I find fair.
Well, I was an intern at a start-up, what should I say? Pay was not amazing, but I would choose it again over any well-paid corporate job because of all the characteristics just mentioned. As a working student I was paid competitively though and definitely better than the average start-up working student.
If you look at the hard facts than women are definitely underrepresented which, in my opinion, is due to the industry and the candidate it attracts and not due to Recruiting or opinions within the firm. Everyone is respected and appreciated regardless of gender, race or beliefs. The number of females is increasing rapidly and they are committed to providing equal opportunities to everyone.
You can definitely shape your own tasks. When you start there will be certain tasks that are planned for your position. However, if you have ideas they will always support and encourage you to go through with them regardless of your position, department etc. That makes your tasks so interesting and diverse, not a single day is like the previous one. I enjoyed that a lot, but, you need to be proactive and curious to like this. If you look for stability and routine then this might simply not be the right fit for you. If you look for diverse tasks, having an impact, assuming responsibility then you will love working at chargery.
