What I dislike about the employer

Don't be swayed by the carefully crafted external image. Once inside you'll find an environment riddled with office politics and performative culture that you expect for a company of this size.

Departures are a leading indicator of a company's culture. Here, it’s not uncommon for colleagues to leave abruptly, with minimal acknowledgment from the company. A pattern that shouldn't exist if the company truly lived the values it claims to uphold. This lack of authentic care for the employees is especially disappointing coming from an organization that bills itself "best place to work".

Rapid growth has created significant internal challenges. Decisions are often driven by tenure rather than by experience, creating unnecessary friction. As a result, seasoned professionals are slowed down by inflated egos and forced to deal with unnecessary noise, rather than being empowered to focus on meaningful work and solving real business problems.

This is compounded by a flawed approach to people management. High performing IC's are given people management tasks. However, many lack the necessary mindset shift, continuing to focus on their own output rather than enabling others to succeed. As a result, teams suffer from micromanagement and lack of support, rather than strong leadership.

In general there's a focus on optics. Genuine collaboration, innovation, and accountability are consistently pushed aside in favor of internal posturing.

As such, the environment tends to be very toxic to anyone who actually wants to do meaningful (team)work and grow.

Certainly the transparent and open communication culture, the passion for the vision and the product to achieve it, the great support one is receiving from others in the company, the compensation package

Some administrative onboarding topics (e.g. primary location setup, software permissions etc.) could work smoother when starting a new journey

I've only started a bit ago, but so far I'm receiving very understanding and top-notch support and empowerment. The only thing that's a bit odd, but it is in the process of being improved, is that I hardly interact with my people manager but mostly with my Team Captain.

What I dislike about the employer

At first glance, this company appears to be an attractive, modern employer with impressive marketing and a polished image. But behind the glossy façade lies a very different reality - one that any potential employee should think twice about before joining.

Promises made during the hiring process often don’t hold up once you’re on board. The company excels at creating enthusiasm but falls short when it comes to follow-through and integrity. One telling sign: the average employee age is in the early 30s - not because it's a young, innovative place, but because older employees are subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) pushed out. Long-term sick leaves are clearly frowned upon, and despite messages of support and flexibility, employees who aren’t 100% fit quickly find themselves sidelined.

Communication within the company is inconsistent and opaque. For instance, remote work policies have been reversed overnight, even for those who were explicitly hired for fully remote roles. Benefits such as subsidized transportation (e.g., annual travel passes) must be repaid in full if your contract ends prematurely - even if the termination isn’t voluntary.

Relocation support is another area where expectations are set high but reality disappoints. Promises are made but not kept, and once you're on-site, you're often left on your own. Linz itself, despite the company’s best branding efforts, is not a particularly international-friendly city. The local airport offers very limited and expensive connections, and early or late train connections to Vienna are impractical or unavailable. Even commuting within Linz can be a challenge - while a direct shuttle bus was promised, it doesn’t align with train schedules, and the trip from the main station to the office still takes at least 40 minutes.

Pay transparency is nonexistent, and while the company likes to boast about diversity, particularly gender diversity, the reality is skewed: women are largely employed in low-paid administrative or support roles, which inflates statistics without addressing deeper structural issues.

In conclusion, this company invests heavily in appearances, but those who look beneath the surface will find a culture that is far less progressive and supportive than it pretends to be. Proceed with caution - especially if you value stability, transparency, and integrity.

What I like about the employer

I am a very happy father of my first child. Although i am in a leadership role with a full agenda and responsible for a critical area, my decision to take parental leave was fully supported and never challenged. I think the support by the company to ensure good balance between work and private life has to be mentioned here. At least i know / have seen other companies where this is all supported on paper but then ultimately not seen as "best practice" for employees with a greater area of responsibility.

All in all i have to say:
The company has and is experiencing significant growth and it is a challenge to manage that, both from an organizational perspective, as well as making sure a significant vale output can still be ensured. But regardless of department or role, everyone is trying to do the best job possible. And the level of talent and experience in the observability space is amazing, so there is no boring or uninspiring work day ever.

I really like the non-hierarchical company culture and the positive spirit everyone brings to work. Plenty of meeting zones to discuss and collaborate (incl. Barista with excellent coffee)

The Linz office is around 3km from the central station and there is no ideal public transport connection

Die Kultur ändert sich, die Richtung und Erwartungen sind hier nicht ganz klar.
Auch bei den Arbeitsbedingungen wurde ein Schritt zurück gegangen im nationalen Vergleich (Flexibilität, ausreichend Platz im Büro).

Persönliche Entwicklung wird zusehends schwerer.

Feedback von Mitarbeitern einholen und an ihrer Entwicklung arbeiten. Das hilft auch dem Unternehmen innovativ zu bleiben.

Gefühlt wird man immer mehr überwacht und gemessen. Das erhöht den Druck und das Konkurrenzdenken.

Viel organisatorischer Overhead. Büro ist zwar cool, aber zu viele Leute in einem Raum und stundenlange calls in kleinen Telefonzellen ist nicht unüblich.

Prozesse ändern sich laufend und spät. Viel Änderung und die Effizienz leidet.

Immer weniger Kreativität und mehr Vorgaben um die Roadmaps zu erfüllen. Arbeitsweisen werden zunehmend standardisiert und alles funktioniert nur mehr mit Tickets in unterschiedlichen Systemen.
