Trainee position got cancelled one day before in-house interview

At the beginning of the process I got actually a great feeling about this company. The interview on the phone was very inspiring, felt professional and the interviewers made a proficient impression. I also got room to express my own thoughts about the subject matter and felt generally heard and understood. Thumbs up for that!
However, when the time came to have the in-house interview I got a little different impression. On the same morning, I got sample data to prepare some code for a possible use case. Of course I started to think and to code a little. I was then interrupted by an e-mail that the position was cancelled and the hiring process was terminated. Well one could imagine that such circumstances leave a sour aftertaste, even after being in touch with very nice people. I don't want to place any blame on anyone, but I felt quite snubbed at the least by that experience.
