A company with a great potential that needs the right tweaks

The three years I worked for Selecta can hardly be considered as substantial in terms of duration, as it can in terms of a most rewarding experience – in my case, at least. Much changed over the course of that time, perhaps more than in the years before: there were highs and there were lows, which you can see in earlier reviews below. And while I don’t mean to put things in a favorable light, I must say Selecta’s been going through some tough times recently and she needs some time to recover. And she will.
As far as daily work is concerned, I think much depends on the department you work in. I had the pleasure of being part of the R&D team run by open and friendly managers. I would dare say that department didn’t have the worst reputation (so, maybe my viewpoint is somewhat impacted and spoiled). For example, direct access to any department head as long as an ongoing project was concerned is something I enjoyed greatly. Add to that strategic-but-challenging innovative-and-interesting projects – you get the idea…
Colleagues are friendly and supportive - clearly an asset of this company.
HR I would single out. Probably the most cheerful and helpful department led by competent HR management.
Facilities are great - shower, underground parking (depending on position), a good and moderately-priced canteen.
Swiss-wide unbeatable mobile subscription conditions paid by employer.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Two points I'd like to see dealt with:
- more frequent communication down to mid-management and below about company strategy or key projects
- less politics!
- reachability by public transport is still an issue for many
Verbesserungsvorschläge
- Be stricter when recruiting or appointing Managers; I had the impression the term was sometimes abused with too many "Managers" around.
- Surprisingly, IT are human beings, too. Business and IT, try to reach out and meet each other halfway.
- Management is comprised of people who can also be pushed and stressed themselves. Maybe showing some more sympathy and understanding towards them could help.
- Everyone, go out and talk. Take advantage of the wonderful facilities and café corners.
