A company that is full of false promises and has become a sad shadow of itself

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The initial idea of the company was great. Now not much of it is left.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The toxic promise of a "culture" in exchange for lower salary and unattractive projects.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Employees who leave the company should be careful about their rights. I have witnessed on multiple occasions some "accidental mistakes" of how many holidays are left when you leave.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

In general quite good because between peers because they are nice and supportive.
BUT: You hear about how important the culture is? Don't believe or overrate it, it is merely used to justify the mediocre salaries. When it comes to important topics like career path, the employee's opinion does not truly matter but hey-you get to democratically vote on which coffee machine you want! Also, Self-organization is just a cover-up for the fact that no-one wants to take responsibility or ownership.

Kommunikation

Quite inconsice and all over the place. Information overload. Also if you give feedback to management they still do what they want and dont listen to the peers.

This company lacks structures. On all levels.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The peers are the only nice thing about this company, really.

Work-Life-Balance

You get to work like in an consultancy but paid like in an agency. Overhours can be taken of, theoretically. Also home office has long been a hussle up until corona. There was a lot of mistrust and controll. For instance, if you billed less than xx% on the client you were asked to justify your low productivity.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Flat hierarchies is just a selling point. There are very stiff hierarchies and the company is in general very risk averse and conservative and not as fancy and innovative as they market themselves.

Interessante Aufgaben

Many are stuck on underwhelming long therm projects. We are off-shore workers /Working hands for our clients.

Gleichberechtigung

I have seen many times that designers get discriminated over developers. As a developer you just have to code well to get promoted. As a designer you have to do also sales, give presentations in your freetime, attend to events, push own initiatives within the company etc. . Salaries is also much lower for designers in comparison.

Also I have not seen many BIPOC people, but the ones that were there, did not get the best support for instance by not getting raises for a long time and on top of that extra or less rewarding work, thus enhancing their feeling of not being good enough, while others were supported for way less. Some of them left burned out, which is already a very worrysome indicator...

Arbeitsbedingungen

You get the phone you want and the laptop can also be chosen. State of the art hardware. However in summer it's a sauna.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Gone bad. There used to be a Pro-Bono Iniative. Now it has been removed and became a marketing gimmick to attrackt new people. It lies however in the past.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Very tiny career steps that are hard to achieve because they depend on whether or not your supervisor trusts you. And some just don't.

Image

Branding is better than the reality. Unfortunately, they make a lot of promises and are very bad at keeping up to them.
Especially when it comes to the culture: It used to be a CORE aspect of the strategy and over the years it has disappeared in it completely. Now it's all about growth. Employees matter way less than they used to. sad.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

This is a sad point. Many unclear expectations that are impossible to be met because they are constantly changing and not being tracked. Of course only for the people on the bottom. The management and upper people have apparently plenty of training opportunities - the sky is the limit.

Arbeitgeber-Kommentar

Thanks for your open feedback, it helps us to improve as a company. For the sake of transparency, I'd like to clarify a few topics you address:

- Futurice still promotes pro-bono initiatives e.g. people are compensated for open-source contributions. One initiative got stopped and was replaced by other ones. Our SPICE program has been running for years and still continuously, even during the pandemic.
- All decisions about promotions and salary increases are not decided by supervisors only, but by a committee to support a fair decision process. Part of the process is a dedicated D&I person who takes care of the interests of marginalized people and an unbiased assessment of people's work. The statistics about promotions and raises for each group are shared with all employees.
- this year we have reorganized ourselves into a modern agile organization with self-organized and empowered circles.
- Futurice has a documented career path model that exactly defines what is expected on each level and what is necessary to get to the next level. The expectations are exactly the same for all competencies.
- Futurice considers itself as a learning platform, providing learning opportunities in changing projects, combined with qualified trainings. All Futuriceans have the same training opportunities and are empowered to make training-decisions without asking for permission.
- when somebody decides to leave Futurice the remaining holidays are calculated based on the existing work contract and thus actual law.
- Futurice is not (and probably will never be) in offshore business. Our business model is to sell whole teams and not individuals.
