Arbeitsatmosphäre

Also not a great point. The office in Cologne had round about 12 employees, being 8/9 of them consultants and interns. These 8/9 employees worked in one office, an open-office. Still they communicated between them via skype. The person could be just 2 meters behind you, but they still talked to you though Skype. Nobody wanted to break the silence in the office, so no one talked. Also, only 1/2 of the consultants were truly supportive and kind to help the less experienced ones. The others do not even care if you exist.

Kommunikation

Communication, in a company that promotes itself as very international, was always in German. At that point in time I still had not learned any German, therefore I could not understand a word. Sometimes colleagues and chief were surprised that I was not aware of things that were going on in the company - of course not, it was not communicated for all employees to understand.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

I was a little bit disappointed at the relationship between the colleagues. All consultants/interns working there had between 23 and 30 years-old, however there was no special connection between them. It was actually very weird how employees in the same age range did not have a closer relationship. They also were not very open when integrating new members in the team, leaving them always by themselves with very little support. Sometimes just a bit of small talk, instead of just ignoring that the person is there, is enough to make them feel more integrated and appreciated.

Work-Life-Balance

Let's put it like this - The work life balance was not bad, concerning that they call themselves a consulting company. Comparing to other consulting companies, the working hours were not bad: from 8:00 until 19:00-21:00. The problem is that although they call themselves a consulting company, they are not in fact. They are more like a marketing agency making powerpoint slides. So, comparing with other companies developing such a job that nothing has to do with consulting, these working hours are too long. When you leave the company everything - supermarkets, stores, etc - is already closed. They subtly demand that you work much more than 40 hours a week always saying that they are a consulting company and thus, it is normal that you work so long.

Interessante Aufgaben

The concept of globeone is interesting, the problem is that their activity is in the end not what they promote they do, and consequently the work is not interesting at all, actually it is very boring. Globeone is supposed to be a marketing and strategy consulting company that helps companies bringing its products to BRIC countries, or helps companies from BRIC countries which want to bring a product to Europe/Germany. This is the job you are promised: marketing and strategy consulting. However, as these kind of projects are not always possible, consequently the work is then more centered in making only powerpoint presentations. This was my job: making ONLY powerpoint slides everyday (besides writing articles for the company's blog...), which had nothing to do with consulting. Globeone produces high-quality slides, but that was only it. I felt extremely disappointed and had zero motivation to go to work everyday. Powerpoint slides anyone without a degree can do. I felt it was incorrect to promise me, as an intern, that I would learn a lot about marketing consulting when in the end, I didn't at all, and still cannot say that I brought with me significant learnings. Another important point is that the interns have no contact at all with the client, so also no experience is provided in that area.

Arbeitsbedingungen

This was for sure their best point. When I worked there, the office was great - it had all the conditions any employee needs, a great view over the river Rhein, a lot of space for everyone to work, central location, very fancy. However I know that in the meanwhile they have changed their facilities to some much more modest ones.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

The company supports an organization that helps children from poor countries, which I find very positive! However, no recycling.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

In my case this was not bad, but also not great. What I did not like is that they differenciated a lot the interns, some of them earning much more money than others. But of course, they were always supposed to work as late as necessary... Also no support for interns in terms of public transportation (monthly ticket), lunch, or equivalent.

Globone is a small company that almost no one knows. Thus its image is not so significant.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

No chance for carrier, since the company is very small and has a very flat hierarchy - or you are an intern, or a consultant or a manager. But that is pretty normal for small businesses.
