Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

- friendly and supportive atmosphere between researchers
- very good lab equipment
- modern facilities

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

- no welcome culture for new employees from the institution
- bad organization, especially lab management
- more people are needed to support lab business rather than e.g. PR
- safety is sometimes less valued than progress

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Pay the same amount of attention to internal communication as to external communication. An institute presenting itself as a top employer, supporting their people in every way possible, should at least put more afford into making that a reality one day.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

As to be expected from a young aspiring research institute, pressure is high on the group leader level and further applied on their employees. However, due to lack of communication and freedom when it comes to bringing your own ideas to the table and developing your project or writing your publications. Furthermore, there are very little chances for exchange between researches since seminars or social activities in general had barely been offered, even are COVID restrictions were lifted.

Work-Life-Balance

Depends on the group leaders, some try to pressure their employees after working hours or even during holidays, some value their employee's privacy more.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

There is plenty of room for improvement, but students are actively running campaigns to work on sustainability in daily business.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Communication and atmosphere between colleagues is great from my experience, there is a very welcoming atmosphere, especially among PhD students and Postdocs.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

It depends on the group you work in, some group leaders are really doing a solid job. Nevertheless, we have seen several examples of highly unprofessional behavior up to the point where the safety and health of employees are willingly put at risk.

Arbeitsbedingungen

As mentioned above, some groups are experiencing a fair working atmosphere while others suffer from unprofessional behavior, sometimes putting employees at risk of mental or physical harm.

Kommunikation

Communication below the group leader and management level is low to zero. Some groups are forwarded information by their group leaders, some are not. When it comes to important (also safety-related) information, it depends on people who often do not bother to forward them to the people most depending on it (lab workers).
To the outside, a picture of an organization supporting their employees in every way is being painted, on the inside things look very different. Management does not always support you, rather lets you take care of things that are clearly not your responsibility. This leads to people having to organize things in or outside the lab, who already struggle with a very high workload.

A good place for high quality research, both from the staff and the equipment point of view.
