I can only speak from my own experience and what I personally encountered during my time working at Joy Center Wiesbaden. One positive aspect was that supervision was provided. Unfortunately, beyond that, I experienced the overall working environment as highly stressful, with significant problems regarding communication, organization, workload, and work-life balance.
Communication was one of the most difficult aspects for me. At times, communication felt unnecessarily pressuring, belittling, and far removed from what I would consider professional workplace communication. Hierarchical positions sometimes seemed to be used to exert pressure rather than to provide guidance and support. I also felt that personal frustrations were occasionally carried into professional interactions, which contributed to an uncomfortable and tense working atmosphere.
Another major issue was the lack of proper onboarding. During my interview, I was completely transparent about being at the beginning of my professional career\. I was specifically told that I would initially be supported in a capacity similar to an intern while developing my professional skills\. In practice, however, there was very little structured onboarding or guidance\. Instead, I often felt that my being at the beginning of my career was later held against me, as though I had presented myself as more experienced than I actually was. This was particularly frustrating because my level of experience had been clearly communicated from the beginning.
Rather than creating an environment where a young professional could learn, ask questions, receive constructive feedback, and gradually take on responsibility, I experienced considerable pressure and a lack of adequate support.
The workload was also extremely demanding. Combined with the tense atmosphere, communication problems, and organizational shortcomings, this eventually contributed to me experiencing burnout. In my experience, HR processes and the handling of workplace concerns also left a great deal to be desired.
I believe that especially in a workplace operating within the mental health field, respectful communication, professional boundaries, appropriate workloads, structured onboarding, and psychological safety should be fundamental.
My experience ultimately left me with serious concerns regarding the workplace culture, management style, communication, HR processes, and overall organization. I hope these areas are taken seriously and improved for future employees.
