Chaos and micromanagement in finance department with a flavor of attrition

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Lunch cantine, relatively good location accessible by metro connection and possibility of home office (even abroad).

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Horrible micromanaging. No possibility of taking vacations from August to December due to financial budgeting process. Management actively tries to suppress your ability to take overtime hours off.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

In my opinion the management should stop hiring new people just to burn and churn through them and instead focus on the improvement of the internal processes in order to maintain a minimal level of employee engagement and retention. Your financial stuff is literally running away from you (in a team of 6 a total of 5 people quit in the span of 18 months). The attrition rates are absolutely horrendous and literally nobody takes any responsibility for the departure of your most senior people in the controlling workstream from the management layer.

The concerns of our employees are very important to us, so we take every feedback seriously and work continuously to create the best possible working environment and atmosphere for all employees.

We would like to go into more detail about the points you mentioned:

- There is no general ban of vacations any time of the year, but as common in any finance department, we do have some seasons when it is not possible to go on vacations for longer time (YE closing, budgeting).
In return, there are enough phases with a lower workload where it is also possible to reduce overtime hours and take more time off/vacation.
- We strongly emphasize empowerment of our employees – as long as we can secure high quality output. In case that deliverables, performance, reliability etc. are not according to the expectation, managers have to involve themselves more.
- We are in the middle of a transformation process we actively started to make GG ready for the future needs of our industry. This is why we have challenged many of our processes, our organization and procedures which is naturally connected to adaptions in structure and rebuilding the teams according to new requirements, like strong focus on digitalization, decentralization. Even though it is a challenging time, it is necessary in order to continue to stand out as a company and employer in the future.
