So lala
Gut
yes ! as mention up … there are no proper leaders … there for the pay and making every day very difficult
FIRE Management and hire someone who actually wants to make a positive change
The Operations Director has quite lack of motivation, she clearly doesn’t want to be there maybe the payroll is the only thing keeping her there. but the atmosphere she created was outstanding. hopefully she gets fired because the hotel is doing worse since she started
the hotel industry in Vienna knows the image of Hoxton and its bad
its ok .
eNone existing even requested
good benefits
Absolutely
The director of this hotel refuses to communicate with anyone under manager position even we are told he is available for chat. There is no chance of promotion only if you consider yourself as a** liker than great go for it. if the OP Director doesn’t like you forget everything not even greeting maybe you working hours will be withdrawn a bit so you learn .
0 commutation between departments
Robotization
Everything is a total letdown. Every single day you’ll see your coworkers exhausted, with zero morale, and completely fed up with management. Staff turnover is insane. The people who are supposed to guide you or have your back don't have a clue what they're doing. You'll notice that, in many cases, they’ll reply to your email (if you're lucky) but then ignore you in person, without even saying good morning. The GM is clueless and only knows how to talk trash about his colleagues behind their backs, and to top it off, the HODs have absolutely no control over their departments. The damage done is unreal. The new DO, who already sucked as F&B Director, is not only useless, but she actually has the nerve to be passive-aggressive with her subordinates. Since her arrival, the hotel has become a hostile environment for anyone who isn't part of her inner circle
Fire the GM and the new DO the ones responsible for this operational disaster
The salary is minimum wage at best. Legally, they aren't allowed to pay less, but if they had the chance, they would do it without a second thought
This is key: most of the time, your coworkers will match your pace just to survive the chaos created by management.
The uniforms are a joke, the food is disgusting and allergen-free labeling is nonexistent. There isn’t even any bread, which is incredibly cheap. Most of the time, the coffee maker is broken or they have to borrow it for events because the canteen doesn't even have its own
You’ll very often hear things like 'there is no budget for this.' But then, you’ll see that money is frequently spent on things for the restaurant just to maintain that 'lifestyle' appearance.
Communication is nonexistent, and the place is constantly prone to operational chaos
Nothing. All this hotel gave me was trauma and depression.
The lack of communication, hiding behind phones and text messages instead of communicating with the team, and the stealing of our tips to cover other checks. On top of that, the incompetence of the entire management team and the zero effort to change things. I wouldn't be suprised if this hotel shuts down soon.
Change the entire F&B management team & the General Manager, who has no idea what is going on. He lives in his own world, literally. He doesn't have a clue about how to manage the hotel and believes that the new F&B director, who was given the Operations Manager position, will solve all the problems.
Total chaos! Everyday is an adventure at this hotel. You go to work and you don't know what awaits you. Basically, your day starts with a very messy station. The evening shift never does its work right, and you start by cleaning up after their mess! The funny thing is that nobody is saying anything to fix this mess.
You have to beg for a weekend off! Since the hotel is understaffed, it was impossible to have the weekend free.
There are zero opportunities for career advancement.
The salary is nothing compared with what you're going through every day.
Despite the numerous problems, my colleagues are all amazing. Since we are going through the same thing every day, we managed to stay strong and somehow bond. We tried to help each whenever it's possible.
There isn't anyone who works there longer than 5 months.
The worst you could imagine. Bad management, zero solutions to problems.
Zero communication between the F&B director and the team! The new lady they hired doesn't even say a simple "Good morning". It is too much for her. They hired this woman to "save" the F&B department, but since then, she hasn't changed a single thing. All she does is drink coffee with her friends whom she managed to get hired, in the lobby area and make jokes. All day long, you see these three women talking in the lobby, drinking coffee and doing nothing. I have never seen anything like that- zero respect, zero professionalism. Stay away from the F&B department.
The hotel is situated on a fine place. So availability is good.
High management includes Director are Cowards. You won’t get honest behavior.
Don't be afraid to hire (give the right money) competent people or people with experience. They can keep the standards or push you to another level.
Don’t hire personal from street, without knowledge and without passion.
Average payroll. About benefits in this hotel you can forget
There are not many older workers
Lack of clean work clothes. Dirty and small changing room.
The best part of working here is the team spirit among colleagues. Despite the challenges, high turnover, and demanding environment, the staff form strong bonds and support each other. There’s a real sense of camaraderie, and you quickly learn to rely on and appreciate your coworkers. Additionally, the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of the job means you learn a lot very quickly — from problem-solving to prioritizing under pressure — simply by trying to keep your head above water.
Everything else.
The atmosphere is friendly among colleagues, mostly because we’re all left to survive on our own. Tasks appear out of nowhere, instructions do not, and mistakes are somehow still your fault. It’s a very unifying experience.
The professional façade hides chaos, overworked staff, and systemic inefficiencies that guests rarely notice. In short, the outward appearance is excellent, but internally it’s a masterclass in managing with minimal support, maximum stress, and constant problem-solving. Employees quickly learn that maintaining the image often depends entirely on their own endurance and creativity rather than any structural or managerial support.
Work-life balance is generously interpreted as ‘being available’. Contact outside scheduled working hours is common, and personal time is treated as a flexible concept rather than a boundary. Due to chronic understaffing, covering additional shifts is less a favor and more a survival mechanism for the operation.
The first time you step in, it is appreciated. The second time, it is noticed. After that, it is simply expected. Gratitude quietly disappears, while availability becomes part of your unofficial job description. Free time exists mostly in theory — especially when saying no is remembered far longer than repeatedly saying yes.
Not enough for what you are submitting your mental health to. Pay rises after efficient work are not heard of.
The strongest positive aspect of this job is the solidarity among colleagues. When you are left to figure things out on your own, you naturally bond with the people standing next to you, equally confused. Team spirit develops quickly — helped by the fact that new colleagues arrive so frequently that everyone gets plenty of practice welcoming and training them.
Given the remarkably high turnover, maintaining good relationships is not particularly difficult. You either learn to stick together fast, or you don’t stay long enough to matter. In that sense, the collegial atmosphere is impressively efficient. Colleague support is the only real strength of this job. Considering how often new people start, you get very good at bonding quickly.
The Team is very young. The only one over 35 is the GM and it shows.
You quickly learn that you are ultimately responsible for tracking your own hours accurately — mistakes or omissions are not forgiven, and any discrepancy can result in lost pay. Vacation days are another area where attention is essential: approved time off may be ‘shifted’ or misrecorded, often leaving you with fewer days than you actually took. Guidance and support are rare; instead, the focus is on holding employees accountable while providing limited assistance.
No. Comment.
Communication between management and employees is an interesting concept here. In practice, it mainly takes the form of extended monologues, delivered with great confidence and impressive volume, but limited informational value. The GM speaks often and at length, which creates the comforting illusion that something important is being said.
Dialogue, however, is optional. When employees attempt to ask questions or initiate a conversation, they are usually talked over before finishing a sentence. This ensures efficiency: misunderstandings are created quickly and can later be blamed on the employee.
Expectations are frequently mentioned but rarely clarified. Instructions arrive late, incomplete, or not at all — yet accountability is immediate and very precise once something goes wrong. Feedback flows in one direction only, preferably downward.
Overall, communication here works less as an exchange and more as a performance. It looks active, sounds busy, and ultimately leaves everyone guessing. A fascinating system, especially for those who enjoy solving problems that could have been avoided by a single clear sentence.
Equality is a concept requiring stamina and strategic persistence. Participation in meetings or trainings must be earned, particularly for women, who often need to fight to secure a space at the table. Harassment and homophobia are tolerated, not due to explicit condoning, but because certain individuals are deemed “too difficult to replace.” This creates a hierarchy where survival, patience, and tactical diplomacy are valued above merit or professionalism. True equality is rare, compliance and endurance are standard.
Sometimes but you have to fight to be part of it.
Seitens General Manager keine offene Kommunikation,
So verdient kununu Geld.
