One small improvement I would suggest would be more proactive communication during longer waiting periods. After submitting my take-home challenge, I waited around two weeks for the decision and eventually followed up myself. While I completely understand that delays can happen, a brief update in between would have helped reduce some of the uncertainty during the waiting period.
Apart from that, I had a very positive experience. I particularly appreciated how the take-home challenge was organized: it was clearly timeboxed, and being able to choose when to complete it made it easy to fit into my schedule. I also really appreciated receiving detailed and specific feedback on my submission after the decision. This made the outcome transparent and gave me something valuable to take away from the process.
Nach 4 Runde wenigstens telefonisch anrufen, begründen und keine 'template absage mail' senden
The process was long but I liked meeting the team in all the steps. I could see that there is a positive vibe at the company. We agreed to keep in touch for a future opportunity.
My only suggestion would be: since the challenge is a big time investment from the candidate, it would be good to schedule a follow up right away rather than wait for feedback from the team. Even if the challenge is not up to the expectations of the team, it would be good to have a short call for feedback, as appreciation for the invested time.
I think the general process was okay, even though it was super long... which i can understand on one hand (you want to be sure of the person you hire) but in my opinion it is quite unfair for the people you wont hire to do such a challenging and long and demanding process.
the one on one interview was quite stressful and i felt more questioned and doubted than supported and motivated... that's probably what stuck with me the most. the interview gave me a doubtful feeling about myself which i think shouldnt happen after a professional interview.
Very positive experience from the application process. The interview partners were all very friendly and it seemed like a good place to work at. From what I could gather, it seems like the company really takes care of the employees as all of them seemed to be very happy to be working there. The questions were fair.
The one thing I was a bit confused about was the architectural interview as the position I applied for didn't state this kind of knowledge in the job ad. Maybe adding a line or two that this kind of knowledge is welcomed or required would have been nice.
What was also a little surprising was the high amount of interview rounds (4 altogether). However it was all done quickly in about two weeks.
I decided in the end to join another company, but I would have been more than happy to join Journi following the pleasant interview process.
Be professional and show respect for the time and efforts of the candidates applying for a position at the company.
- Candidates were not given the flexibility to choose interview times that suited their schedules, as only predetermined slots were offered by HR.
- Join the interview in the specified time for the meeting don't let the candidate wait.
- Keep in mind that the candidates applying for a position are taking time from their day to have this interview, for the interviewer, it is part of their job responsibilities.
- Don't put candidates on 5-6 interviews it does not make sense for anyone to waste their time in 3 interviews and then just get rejected by email.
- Take a look at the assignment requirements that you are giving to candidates and make them more concise and don't request the use of new technology for the features to be implemented on an existing project that has old technology and the code is totally unreadable.
- Be mindfull that what you are requesting in 4 hours to be implemented is even possible to be done and give the candidate at least a chanse to discuss what has impleented and what could be done if there was more time since a 4-hour assignment does not showcase someone overall experience.
I had a very pleasant experience interviewing for this position. I particularly liked that the provided information on their career page as values, culture and expectations matches reality and was noticeable throughout the interviews and every team member I met during the process. The interviews were structured as open conversations and I was able to learn a lot about their current projects and plans, as well as lessons learned. Their transparency and honesty was very refreshing and appreciated.
The process also involved working on a HR challenge where I was asked to work on practical examples and provide ideas which I would implement in a given situation. These were discussed in depth in the further interviews with direct feedback.
The impression I got of Journi - it seems like a great place to work at with plenty of challenging and intriguing tasks, with the culture and team being put first. They are in a rapidly growing stage as a scale-up and the only recommendation I have is to provide a clearer overview of the next stages and timeframe, which however was adressed via email communication.
More personalized and relevant questions during the interview would have been more effective than simply reading them from a script. After what I believed to be a successful interview, I received no feedback—positive or negative—for over three weeks, even after following up for an update. Although the conversation with the recruiter was satisfactory, overall, it ended up being my most negative experience to date. The company’s disappointing and disrespectful treatment of candidates has made me decide that I would not want to work there in the future. Notably, the job posting was reposted just two days ago.
Try sticking to the estimated response dates that you share with the candidates. After one of the rounds I was told that I'll receive the details about the next round within 1-2 days and it took 4 in the end, so I thought for a while that I'm out of the process, even though I felt very happy with how the interview went. It's not that much of a difference in the end and really my only minor negative feedback on the whole process, because the rest has been just amazing in every aspect, but there's still some room for improvement in this matter :)
