What makes Journi special for me is not only the product or the growth story, but the combination of a strong culture, talented people, and founders who remain deeply invested in the company they built. There is a genuine desire to learn from employees, improve continuously, and build something meaningful for customers. It is not a perfect company (as no company is) but it is one where people care, listen, and work hard to make things better, together.
One of the things that stood out most to me at Journi is that the founders genuinely care about both the business and the people working in it. Even as the company has grown, they remain actively involved, accessible, and interested in understanding what employees think. There is a strong culture of continuous improvement where feedback is not only welcomed but actively sought. People are encouraged to challenge ideas, contribute solutions, and help shape the future of the company.
Journi is a place where people who take initiative can have a real impact. Employees are trusted with meaningful responsibilities early and are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone. Because leadership is accessible and decision-making is relatively fast, good ideas can quickly turn into real projects. If you enjoy learning, solving problems, and contributing beyond your job description, there are plenty of opportunities to grow.
The people are, without question, one of Journi’s greatest strengths. There is a shared sense of ownership and a genuine willingness to help each other succeed. The culture is built around mutual respect, open feedback, accountability, and giving back to the company, colleagues, and customers. It is one of the few places where I have seen people challenge each other openly while maintaining a high level of trust and collaboration.
The leadership team is approachable and highly engaged. What I particularly appreciated is that the founders have remained close to the day-to-day reality of the business rather than becoming distant executives. They regularly seek employee input, ask difficult questions, and are willing to challenge their own assumptions when presented with better ideas. While not every decision is perfect, the intent behind decisions is consistently to improve the company and create a better experience for both employees and customers.
Communication is probably one of Journi’s strongest cultural pillars. The company operates with a very high level of transparency and employees are encouraged to provide feedback on virtually any aspect of the business. What makes this work is that leadership, including the founders, genuinely listens. There is a real desire to understand what is happening on the ground, gather different perspectives, and continuously improve. Discussions can be direct, but they are almost always driven by the goal of making the company better.
The amenities are also impressive: free transportation, a canteen, in house café stations and modern, comfortable offices. If work-life comfort matters to you, they’ve invested in it.
Advice to management:
Invest in the people you already have. Build transparent career paths, listen to your teams, and let product quality speak for leadership’s priorities, because right now, in some areas it isn’t.
Most of people here are genuinely the biggest highlight talented, friendly, and collaborative. You’ll be surrounded by skilled colleagues who make the day to day enjoyable.
The development team is well-resourced on paper, but the product hasn’t seen meaningful improvements in years, especially compared to competitors who are moving fast. It’s hard not to wonder where the investment is actually going.
Internal growth is mostly non-existent, promotions roles consistently go to external hires rather than developing the people already working there for years. Advancement depends far more on who you know than what you deliver.
Leadership is a serious concern. The CEO’s communication is unclear and decision making is inconsistent, which creates confusion and a lack of strategic direction across the company. Management appointments in general raise questions about how people reach those positions.
Communication across the company could be much better. Different areas rarely talk to each other in any meaningful way, and there’s no real system in place to fix that. Decisions get made without informing the people affected, and by the time information reaches you, it’s either too late or incomplete
The colleagues are one of Journi’s biggest strengths. People are open, friendly, and usually happy to help, both professionally and personally. Naturally, in a company of this size you won’t be close with everyone, but the general atmosphere is very positive. It’s also nice to see that many colleagues meet outside of work, which reflects how easy it is to connect with people here.
Leadership behavior varies widely depending on the manager. I experienced two extremes: either a lot of empathy but little follow-through or real resolution, or quick ‘solutions’ delivered in a detached and unempathetic way. This became particularly clear in the handling of layoffs and other difficult conversations, which often felt overly discreet and poorly addressed. The experience seemed to depend heavily on the individual lead: some communicated tough decisions with at least a degree of care and dignity, while others came across as so cold and impersonal that employees were left feeling devalued at an already vulnerable moment.
The working conditions are one of the stronger aspects of the company. The office is modern and enjoyable to work in, with good coffee, free healthy food every day, breakfast, and other nice extras. Necessary equipment is usually provided without much difficulty when there is a clear need for it. The meeting rooms are well equipped too, even if the acoustics could be better at times.
Compensation did not always feel fair. In practice, people were often expected to already perform at the next level before being considered for the salary that matched it. Salary increases felt highly controlled, with the main opportunity coming during the annual review cycle, where the offer already seemed largely fixed. Progression to the next level also felt quite subjective, with factors such as communication or perceived motivation sometimes being cited as reasons not to promote people.
I really appreciate how fresh and open the whole environment feels. People are kind, curious and open to ideas and that makes collaboration super natural.
I can tell that Journi values creativity, innovation and also employees wellbeing, it's definitely a place where people feel trusted and inspired to do their best :)
Nothing, as it really feels like a place where you can share freely your opinions and discuss them if needed.
