What's happening in Mondi?? Why can HR management destroy everything and why does nobody seem to care?

Overall, Mondi is still an interesting, international employer with many good opportunities. Many people who work here are fully committed, see purpose in their tasks and pour their heart into what they are doing. The Vienna headquarters' location is really great: very good public transport possibilities, many shops and restaurants near the office and the benefits for the Vienna employees (if they remain as they were) are really attractive.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

I cannot understand why this management style in HR is being accepted (or even supported?). How replacing Mondi colleagues with people from (so far) exclusively (!!) one company is in line with Mondi's claim to act with integrity, is beyond me. Why Mondi's top management is either obviously ignoring what's going on or maybe not caring is even more unfathomable. The silence of business leaders to the situation in HR is deafening. Calling all this "change" is an insult to everyone who does change properly, smartly and with competence. This is not change, this is driving a wrecking ball through Mondi's culture, accepting (or fostering?) collateral damage. It is truly heartbreaking.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

To Mondi's top management: have the courage to admit that the HR management placements in the past 12 months were a mistake and start damage control asap (although very much has already been destroyed). And if this is actually the way you want Mondi's culture to develop, be honest and admit it. Tell people that you pay them good money to work their xxx off, that you do not care for them as people and that they are (replaceable) numbers who need to deliver. As harsh and inhuman (and old-fashioned btw) this may sound, at least it would be honest and authentic. People should know what they are in for.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Unfortunately, a once great and inspiring atmosphere has declined rapidly in HR over the 12 months. People seem to be constantly scared and afraid to challenge things; interesting projects have been stopped or cancelled. Tense is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of the work atmosphere in HR.

Image

Good image as a global company, still room for improvement when it comes to potential candidates on the labour market.

Work-Life-Balance

It's always been stressful and people wear many, often too many hats - but it was fun and engaging at the same time and it made sense, so people powered on. Now: not anymore - it's just stress, unrecognised work and a tense atmosphere - of course this also affects private life.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Mondi offers quite good opportunities to develop, e.g. to work abroad. The development offers and how you can progress in your career is changing now, so I am afraid that this will have a negative impact on how our employees can grow.

Gehalt/Benefits

Mondi offers attractive packages, both in terms of salary and benefits.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Mondi has sustainability high on its agenda, but as mentioned in a previous comment: commercial interests seem to prevail if tough decisions have to be made.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Despite the decline, many people still support each other, although it feels a bit like clinging to each other on a sinking ship. I would say, the situation brings out the best and the worst in people (some have obviously switched into a "saving their a... mode"). The gap between Mondi colleagues and the newly hired people (all with a certain American company under their belt) is palpable.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

In Mondi in general, older employees are valued the same as younger colleagues.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

What can I say? The new management style (and I choose this term on purpose, because there is no trace of leadership in it) comes across as a mixture of disrespect, lack of interest in people as human beings, of "I know it all" and "what has been done in the past is worth nothing and we now show you how it is done". It's appalling and a first - it pushes toxic management to a whole new level.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Great & modern office, great infrastructure, fantastic location in the middle of Vienna (good public transport connections).

Kommunikation

Overall, communication across the Group is ok with the usual corporate tendency to gloss over not so pretty things. In HR, however, you now obviously have to belong to the new "in-group" (consisting of the newly hired managers) to get information. If you do not belong to the group, you even find out about new or leaving colleagues by coincidence (just to name an example).

Gleichberechtigung

Overall, there have been many aspirations and also supporting initiatives to foster D&I, but most of them have been stopped. And in terms of equality within the HR department - just see my comments about colleagues and communication ...

Interessante Aufgaben

There were plenty - they have almost all been halted or cancelled. Many things (processes, programmes, etc.) that were already developed in the past are simply renamed and now being sold as the "great new thing".
