The monthly (sometimes daily) visits of Vienna’s firefighters are among the most inspiring elements! Thanks to the tireless construction work, I haven’t enjoyed such excitement since kindergarten. What a show!

I would like to express my appreciation for the new home office policy and the positive impact it has had on our daily working experience. It is inspiring to see how many hidden benefits reveal themselves once we spend four full days a week in the office.

The out-of-nowhere introduction of the new home office policy was a masterclass in efficient communication. By skipping employee consultation entirely, we were protected from time-wasting and pointless discussions.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Lunchtime is among the best areas where the policy shines. The lack of space in the kitchen and dining area encourages creativity, as employees are invited to enjoy their meals in meeting rooms instead. Paradoxically, those who don’t fit into the dining area are the lucky ones - at least they can see sunshine. Natural light only exists in our long-term memory as our windows have been blocked in the dining area by temporary walls for the past 7 months. Luckily, the originally promised 3 months period was just a joke. The unpredictability of basic resources such as forks, glasses, and microwaves also deserves recognition. It teaches us patience and keeps us grateful when simple things unexpectedly work.
Work-Life-Balance
The new office policy offers an elegant solution to the never-ending challenge of work-life balance. Have small children to take care of? Pets at home? Family members abroad? By simply leaving the ‘life’ part behind, the work-life balance issue disappears altogether.
Arbeitsbedingungen
The ongoing construction work in the building deserves special praise. The constant hammering, drilling, and overall noise pollution is not just background sound. It creates a dynamic acoustic environment that forces us to practice deep focus and trains us to work under any circumstances, no matter how chaotic. The fact that conversations must be paused because we cannot hear our own voices contributes actually to our productivity: it encourages shorter meetings and reminds us that small talks should be stopped: coffee break is over, go back to your work! Efficiency at its finest.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
One of my favorite office benefits is the heating system. It reminds us of the importance of the environment. Our motto could be: save energy, save the planet! Sitting on chairs that are literally freezing helps us stay awake better than coffee. Like the ancient Antarctic idiom says: freezing cold doesn’t exist, only insufficient clothing does.
