Verbesserte firmenweite Kommunikation
Great (and competent) colleagues; interesting projects; quick and easy communication among the teams; flexible working time.
Uncertain future (inherently part of the startup status); very much decision power concentrated at the CEO and Product Management (although I see this slowly improving); sometimes things change rather rapidly, which can demotivate people.
I like coming to the office every working day. There are never days were I am dread meeting the colleagues, or working for USound. So I think it is fair to say that the atmosphere is very good.
As far as I know, all contracts are "all-in". However, we have "Vertrauensarbeitszeit", meaning no one controls working hours, and the is no expectation to work more than the standard working time. Home office can be taken within reason. We have colleagues with family and they can do the typical juggling of work and family knowing that USound allows them quite some flexibility.
In this regard USound is (partially inherently) suboptimally positioned. On one hand there should/could be really more emphasis on (personal) development. On the other hand, within a company of that size not many career opportunities exist.
However, there is definitely a lot of room to expand ones knowledge and develop expertise and become the expert in a new domain. New projects opportunities are opening regularly, people are encouraged to develop into experts of those new fields.
This is really good. I never have the feeling that teams (or individual people) are working against each other. Of course the different locations (Graz, Vienna, Shenzhen) make this a bit challenging, but nonetheless there is plenty of solidarity.
It depends on the superior, but for my part, it is very close to perfect. It has to be said, however, that USound is still a rather small company, so there is very little corporate enforcement on a specific leadership style; or support for the managers (independent of level). So their style (and qualities) differ quite a lot.
All three locations of USound are located in larger cities and office buildings. So the "infrastructure" is very good. Also in the office rooms everything is good. Of course, height-adjustable desks for everyone would be a nice improvement. ;-)
Overall I would say overall it is good, however, over the years some top down communication could have been more motivational and open. Among the teams there is a lot of (good) communication, which I enjoy a lot.
All the "must haves" in this regard are clearly taken care of, no one needs to worry about getting their money at the end of the month.
But, you can not expect top notch compensation at a company that is still primarily investor funded. Nonetheless, salaries are above the collective-bargaining-agreement level. Also there are some other benefits like: lunch money, future fund, public transportation.
Assessing this is tricky because there are very few women in engineering (for whatever the reason), which makes up a big domain of jobs at USound. As far as I can see, I don't think that there is any discrimination because of race, gender, disability, etc. ongoing.
Working on bringing a young company with new technology from idea to mass production, building trust with potential customers and finally selling it. I think it does not get much more interesting than that. Of course not every one can work on the forefront of those activities, although most do; regardless, the spirit is definitely omnipresent.
The "Family kind" of vibes between some higher-ups creates a great team spirit!
Not deleting the kununu reviews would be my suggestion. Otherwise it's very suspicious for every external person when they check the website. Especially when they check the website not once but twice and see that things are being deleted....
The atmosphere is so nice that people do everything in order to be able to work from home
The strategy of being honestly silent and not showing off as if there was something to show off is really not bad
Sometimes you can work from home, which gives you a great possiblity to do extra hours, because the load of work is so massive
According to management there is a possibility, even if noone experienced it
Supportive to the extent of acting normal knowing management is planning to quit some good coworkers
Works great, because there are not many!
Some managers do like each other VERY MUCH. You can feel the love and joy atmosphere, sometimes you can even see it
Another level of communication - you don't even need to ask, you already know in advance that you won't get an answer
There is always a way up, even if a raise of 100€ takes some years, you will get it in the end
TOP! Talking about queer people only when they are not in the same room
It's up to you - you can always make yourself see something good in your everyday boresome job even if it's actually not there
The collaborative and friendly coworkers who do their best to help others cope with management's toxicity.
The toxicity and lack of fairness that has been established by people in "leadership" positions.
The company needs to make changes at its core, to uproot its foundations -- which will probably never happen.
Basic, uninspiring offices. Dirty surfaces - employees have to clean eveything themselves.
Due to the toxic work environment, the word of mouth has done its work. Locals are aware of the questionnable working conditions. Internationally, the company is mostly ignored.
The only positive benefit was the home office policy. Unfortunately, this was prohibited for no clear reasons for certain time periods.
Certain Departments are understaffed, leading certain employees to burnout.
Dead-end. Fake promises for promotions and further development.
Quite low, especially for non-Austrian nationals.
Recycling bins are placed in the office building. However, any environmental efforts are underminded by the costly and unsustainable production efforts.
The great majority of employees and middle managers are very nice and easy to work with. However, certain people in senior management compensate their incompetence with a facade of inflated self importance and superiority. These people are protected due to their questionable relationships with other people in leadership positions. Nepotism and lack of fairness prevail.
I witnessed employees who worked for multiple years in the company being fired whenever it was convenient.
Lack of good judgement and managerial skills. They try to compensate it with an inflated sense of self.
The desks and chairs are comfortable but the lack of hygiene is a major red flag.
Extremely poor communication. Employees should guess where projects are heading, what are the goals, and even how the products are evolving. Witnessed people not be informed about upcoming business trips till the day before the flight.
Mistakes are blasted across departments - shouting and swearing are not uncommon. Employees are being lied to constantly.
Kununu reviews tend to disappear since June 2023. This is another red flag.
The company employees people from different parts of the world and of both genders. However, foreign nationals are often exploited by being offered below average salaries and women are seen as personal assistants. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for women in managerial roles to have this exact same attitude towards other women.
The R&D Department may enjoy their projects. That is not the case for almost every other department, where employees have to perform menial and repetitive tasks. Narrow minded managers who are afraid to think out of the box create an uninspiring work environment that sucks the life out of you day by day.
Interessante Tätigkeit, Hoher Innovationsgrad, gutes und effizientes Teamwork, hohe Flexibilität (zeitlich und Tätigkeitsorientiert), gute Work/Life Balance, Familienfreundlichkeit
because of the basically unlimited homeoffice, one does not need to go to the office often
salary is below industry standard, there are personal attacks sometimes, the benefits are ever-shrinking, the workload is not divided fair, some people do three jobs because there is no new hire, while others walk the offices with their coffees, doing nothing.
management style needs to improve in a substantial way. stop changing priorities every day. truely value your employees and do not treat them like disposable items.
The environment is loud, lots if people talking loudly, no basic office etiquette, making being in the office not bearable full-time. there is just constant interruption of the work, so I used the homeoffice opportunity extensively. I also observed inappropriate behavior like colleagues making degrading jokes about other colleagues, shouting, outbursts, and other insulting, unprofessional behaviour.
local people either do not know the company at all, or have heard negative things about it.
In my case good, because of homeoffice opportunities. Other colleagues do lots of overtime, also all-in contracts are common.
absolutelly no regard to any part of sustainability.
Your responsibilities are mostly growing if someone else leaves the company and you have to take over their tasks. Due to the flexitime, it would be possible to hold a job there while studying, but they do not really support you in any other way.
My immediate team was awesome and actually the reason to stay in the company. Working with other departments was challenging from time to time, because there are some people there who have the need to share an opinion about the quality of your work, but being neither your superior nor have a qualification in the same field.
In my case, my direct managers were mostly behaving respectfully and were alright. I did however witness that other people in the company were not that lucky.
apart from loudness in the office, there are basic laptops and the desks are ok, but nothing fancy. If you want ergonomic or better quality items, like headphones you can actually wear for a whole day of meetings, best to take care of that yourself.
Constantly changing strategies and opinions. Often doubling the work, because during the time a task or project is being worked on and finished, opinions of the management change again and one has to start over again. Also, in my opinion the information flow regarding the state of the company and the goals for the near future could be vastly improved.
a little bit over the minimal wage of the collective agreement, but all-in contracts. there is flexitime, but if you use it, people will look at you funny, unless you belong to the small circle of people who have all the liberties in the company.
women are somehow mostly viewed as assistants, no matter the title and experience level. there is some casual sexism going on.
interesting because constantly changing. there is no chance to develop a true routine.
So verdient kununu Geld.
