Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Based on my experience, there is nothing about XAL as an employer that I would genuinely praise.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The gap between polished employer branding and the everyday treatment of employees.

In my experience, weak leadership, selective recognition, limited transparency, and financial progression that failed to match growing expectations undermined the working environment.

Professionalism and loyalty were expected from employees. Accountability from management appeared considerably more negotiable.

Advice to future candidates: do not confuse excellent product design with excellent leadership. Look beyond the branding and ask about management practices, salary progression, and how professional contribution is recognised.

Understand your employment rights before signing anything, and stay informed throughout your employment. Publicly advertised values are no guarantee of how you will actually be treated.

A well-informed employee is not a difficult employee. Knowing your rights is not a lack of loyalty.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Before cutting more employees, take a serious look at leadership and middle management.

Recent layoffs appear to have affected experienced, competent people who contributed to the company for years. In my view, the deeper problem lies in how teams are led, decisions are made, and contribution is valued.

Removing expertise while leaving poor leadership unexamined is hardly an improvement strategy. Fewer employees will not make weak management more competent.

Apply accountability upwards, not just downwards. Otherwise, “restructuring” risks becoming an expensive way of preserving the very problems that need fixing.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

“Life is too short for boring light.”

An impressive slogan. Unfortunately, polished branding does not guarantee a healthy working environment.

XAL knows how to present excellence: sophisticated products, polished marketing, and carefully crafted corporate values. In my experience, its treatment of employees did not live up to that image.

Life is too short for boring light. And certainly too short for a company that expects your passion to be unlimited while your expectations remain minimal.

Image

Excellent product design. Far less impressive leadership.

XAL knows how to market excellence. In my experience, its treatment of employees did not match the polished image.

Corporate values read beautifully. They would be considerably more impressive in practice.

Work-Life-Balance

Work-life balance is heavily promoted, but in my experience, the reality was poor. Another corporate promise that looked far better in the branding than it felt in practice.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Professional growth is expected. In my experience, the support and recognition needed to sustain it were far less forthcoming.

Competence and contribution appeared to matter less than internal positioning. An excellent way to teach ambitious employees one thing: when to look elsewhere.

Gehalt/Benefits

XAL encourages candidates:

“Don't just talk about what you can do, but about what drives you.”

Perhaps the preferred answer is “passion”—it sounds impressive and costs less than fair compensation.

More responsibility? Let passion drive you. Better pay? Let's not spoil this inspiring conversation with numbers.

In my experience, expectations grew far faster than compensation. Even a raise could feel insulting, while the gratitude expected was anything but modest.

A modest increase, an immodest expectation of appreciation. Fair pay is not a personal favour deserving applause.

So, what drives you? Perhaps meaningful recognition and fair reward for your effort.

And what drives XAL? My experience suggests that getting more matters considerably more than giving back.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

There are skilled, dedicated, and professional people at XAL who deserve recognition. They made the working experience better, but could not compensate for poor leadership.

The second star is for those colleagues and the professionalism I witnessed. Certainly not for management.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Professionalism, flexibility, loyalty, and accountability are expected from employees. In my experience, those expectations were not consistently reflected in management.

Hierarchy and internal positioning often carried more weight than professional contribution. A management title does not automatically make someone a leader.

Favouritism within the BIM department is difficult to miss. Recognition appears to be driven by subjective preferences rather than the competence needed to develop the team and secure the department’s future.

Competent people appear to be overlooked, while those whose competence, professional integrity, ambition, and contribution seem far less convincing receive considerable recognition.

Apparently, fitting into the hierarchy matters more than having something to contribute.

Arbeitsbedingungen

In my experience, basic workplace conditions did not receive the attention they deserved. The care invested in presenting the company's products was not consistently reflected in the environment provided for its employees.

Kommunikation

For a company specializing in lighting, XAL has a surprisingly complicated relationship with transparency.

In my experience, communication was weak and accountability uneven. Professionalism, transparency, and accountability should work both ways.

Interessante Aufgaben

“BIM or not to be.”

According to its creator, the slogan started as a joke. Almost charming—until the gap between the promotion and the reality stops being funny.

Let BIM actually be. Give it competent leadership, recognise professional contribution, and support the people who make it possible. A slogan is no substitute for any of these, however amusing its creator found it.
