Great team spirit, a positive atmosphere, supportive leadership, and very good benefits and working conditions.
The base salary feels a bit below market for the role in Berlin, and career development could be stronger.
More transparency around salary and more development opportunities would make the experience even better.
Very positive atmosphere and a pleasant place to work every day.
The company has a modern and positive image even if it's not very known in Berlin
Work-life balance is much better than at my previous employer. Extra effort is recognized, and after busy periods we are encouraged to take time to recharge.
The benefits are very good, although the base salary feels a bit below market for the role in Berlin.
The team spirit is excellent and colleagues support each other a lot.
The collaboration is respectful and positive
My manager is supportive, respectful, and appreciative and help me to grow
The working conditions are very good, with great benefits like the Bella&Bona subsidy, a fully paid BVG ticket, Wellhub, and the Nilo mental health app. Weekly themed snacks and drinks, plus ideas like the idea box, also help create a strong sense of community and belonging.
There is still room for improvement and growth, but people are treated with a lot of care. The company listens and is willing to improve when something is affecting someone.
The tasks are interesting and varied, and I feel I can have an impact by bringing new ideas and improvements.

Salary
Except for the salary - everything. I’m actively applying to other jobs because the disrespect became unbearable. You’re expected to work 12+ hours, be available at night and on weekends and then you might get fired with no warning during your probation time. Happening to so many people in here, it’s crazy. To every applicant I can only recommend: stay away!
Don’t exploit people, this is not the U.S.
Many company events. Global work experience , since many of their branches are abroad. 28 Days of vacation to start with.
Found a Works Council (Betriebsrat).
Please revisit the exit strategy which exposes vulnerability. Bypassing German labor law and legal processes exposes the company to massive legal and financial risks when employees fight back.
Use your acquired investment to retain and retrain talent rather than wasting it on legal costs and severance for unnecessary turnovers.
Restore the once-collaborative culture in PED. Employees are not commodities. Especially, regain the trust and foster transparency in the organization.
The atmosphere is dominated by a "fear of dismissal" culture. High turnover and the frequent use of "Mutual Terminations" as a euphemism for pushed exits have destroyed psychological safety. Most employees are currently job hunting to escape the volatility.
They invest a lot into PR and external images.
Long, unpaid hours are usual even if not enforced under fear of swift dismissal. New hires tend to be non-Western European backgrounds who are more willingly sacrificed to working well over 40 hours without compensation.
The company offers a "survival of the fittest" version of career progression. While fast promotions are possible for a favored few, they are frequently tied to volatile reorganizations that conveniently remove several colleagues at the same level.
While colleagues are talented and friendly, the performance evaluation system destroys collaboration by prioritizing individual output over team's success. It is increasingly difficult to get peer support in the Product Engineering Division.
The company frequently leans on a "Mutual Termination" strategy to push employees out while sidestepping standard German labor protections. Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) are often used as precursors to termination with minimal severance rather than as genuine development tools. HR communication regarding labor rights is frequently misleading, seemingly capitalizing on those unfamiliar with local law to bypass key legal requirements for performance-based exits.
Many middle managers are talented but inexperienced. They often demonstrates drawback in conflict management.
Transparency is a very hard to find value in this organization. Particularly the 2024 role recalibration and 2025 layoff brought about strong distrust in the organization. Task assignment is highly unstructured. The organization has a growing pain in communication as the organization gets increasingly larger in head count.
Around 2023, the pay was very competitive in the market. Employees joining recently are very more likely to be offered worse package.
Diversity hire. Presence of diverse global workforce.
The people. It's a cliche but they are always what makes the company what it is. I enjoy spending time with them when I come into the office.
How leadership treats you now. It's a shame - they really did used to be better. Sure, the technology was worse back then or the systems were not as advanced but people at least liked being at Blacklane and it was tough to leave for another opportunity. Now people just disappear or phone it in. I'm sure more people would leave if they actually had the option to.
Used to be better. Now after layoffs and multiple "mysterious" firings, the atmosphere is more tense and less trusting. New leadership from Flink came in a couple years ago and many changes resulted from this, especially in PED (engineering). "Flinklane" is far less trustworthy than Blacklane was but people hold onto their jobs in this kind of economy.
Not always great. Some people work like they are in America or Asia even while based in Europe. I should not be seeing Slack posts at 11PM on a Friday.
Career advancement is very hard unless you are from Flink or are 100% in their mold. Development is not focused on and they basically ask for a lead engineer's experience for what should be a senior level. Requirements are crazy high for what they pay and the role you are given.
Despite the leadership changes, the people at Blacklane are incredibly nice and enjoyable to spend time with.
New leadership is very top down and some are micromanagers. Tough conversations are avoided. Transparency is not there anymore.
At least there are regular meetings. But there are massive silos in place at a company that isn't even that big. This is not a place that has clarity and projects take 2-4x as long as estimated.
Blacklane has never paid near the top of the ladder, especially in Berlin. But it was average/good enough for awhile when the culture was better. Now it's a harder ask.
Are you from Flink? Your opinion will be valued. Are you not? Then it won't be.
It has already been indicated that they are willing to throw people away for "more driven" new hires.
Projects seem interesting at first. But then you realize they don't know how to define "done" so you keep coming back to the same issues repeatedly. Focus is too much on speed, not quality. This comes back to haunt you later on because you have to keep fixing the same thing over and over again.
Over the past few years, the Product and Engineering teams have gone through several reorganizations and leadership changes. In some cases, a new reorganization started before the previous one was finished.
Some new leaders showed little interest in understanding the existing products or learning from the teams’ experience. This created ongoing uncertainty. Employees often felt treated more like cost factors than people who could contribute valuable knowledge if there was interest in doing so.
After the most recent leadership change, several employees were let go in a way that felt impersonal and lacking empathy. Since then, many employees work with the constant fear that they might be next.
In general, the work-life balance is okay. However, it is not always modeled well by leadership. Emails and messages are often sent outside of regular working hours and on weekends.
There are very few long-term or older employees in the company. Experience gained over many years is not seen as a strength and is sometimes viewed as a problem rather than a benefit.
Since the last reorganization, working with managers has become more difficult. Personal conversations are rare, and most communication happens in writing. Leadership follows a strong top-down approach, with little real collaboration.
There is a lack of open communication, appreciation, transparency, accountability, empathy, and clear strategic direction. This further strengthens the feeling that employees are managed mainly as costs instead of being valued for their knowledge and experience.
Equality is officially communicated as an important topic. Unfortunately, it is not consistently reflected in everyday work.
Nice office place
See above
Treat people better. I’m witnessing people being fired left and right, they are there in the morning and gone after lunch, even though they did good work. Wondering when it’s my turn
12-14 hour days are normal, people work at midnight
Some people are rude, you try to have a basic conversation but they barely say anything
Heartless, bad communication
No clear and honest communication
The office life is pretty awesome, lots of events and gatherings
If you are flexible, they will be flexible and there is definitely a care about your work-life-balance
Sustainability is a big topic for us
I can count on my colleagues to jump in when needed
Down to earth, humble and accessible to all crew members
Very good. We have all we need and if we ask for something it won't be denied
Need to improve communication throughout the organisation but also in management
Love the diversity and equality
So verdient kununu Geld.
