A truly tech-driven, transparent, and multicultural company.
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
- Nice "geeky" pragmatic culture
- Great work-life balance
- Good salary
- Positive working atmosphere and conditions
- The Checkmk Conference, Summer/End-of-year Events
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Occasionally, it can feel as though some tech teams lean towards an elitist stance, with discussions sometimes highlighting challenges or expertise without consistently proposing concrete solutions. This can, at times, make it difficult to ask for help. A greater emphasis on collaborative problem-solving from all perspectives would be beneficial.
There are instances of unintended "silo-ing", leading to multiple teams inadvertently working on similar initiatives, or, conversely, a lack of clear ownership where responsibilities should ideally lie. This sometimes results in an overall lack of clarity regarding specific roles and accountability, which can be a bit challenging.
The internal IT team provides a great service and is very skilled. They sometimes seem a bit archaic in their approach, showing reluctance towards modern approaches or solutions. This raises questions about their future scalability as the company continues to grow.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
- Keep the great work
- Improve cross-team interactions and communications
- Proactively address diversity & inclusion
- Improve clarity in team and personal goal setting
Arbeitsatmosphäre
Generally, the working atmosphere is very great, characterized by a highly collaborative and supportive environment within teams. The Munich office, in particular, is very well organized and has a pleasant ambiance.
We're very lucky to work with smart people, but occasionally, it can feel as though some tech teams lean towards an elitist stance. This can, at times, make it hard to ask for help, even within your own team (though this can vary depending on the specific team and individuals).
In a fully remote setup, there's room for more interaction with colleagues outside of one's immediate team. This is mitigated by the 3 to 4 annual company events, such as the summer (and end-of-year) gathering, which bring us together in the office or other locations, fostering valuable in-person connections. Overall, it's still a very positive environment.
Kommunikation
Top-down information is consistently shared through informal channels, which works well. Our primary communication tools are Slack and email, supplemented by regular team stand-ups and a comprehensive monthly all-hands meeting. This rhythm feels just right (more would likely be overwhelming, and less wouldn't provide enough transparency).
Work-Life-Balance
Great flexibility that allows for a healthy integration of professional and personal life
Gleichberechtigung
Good foundation of international talent, with colleagues from various parts of Europe (Germans, Italians, Spanish, French, Central Europeans), the USA, and India. While this provides a degree of cultural richness, I believe there's an opportunity for the company to become even more globally diverse, encompassing a wider range of ethnicities, genders, and cultures. The topic of diversity isn't frequently discussed internally, which leaves room for more proactive engagement and communication in this area.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Truly flexible, no
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
While I'm confident that the company takes environmental and social responsibility seriously and is undertaking various initiatives, as an employee, I currently have limited visibility into or understanding of what exactly is being done. Greater transparency and communication about these efforts would be highly beneficial.
Gehalt/Benefits
The salary is competitive.
It's worth noting that for colleagues working outside of Germany, most additional benefits aren't applicable or easily usable in their respective countries.
Introducing options like an Erfolgsbeteiligung (profit share) or OKR-based interest-bearing benefits would be a fantastic addition to enhance the overall package globally.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
I find it encouraging to see internal mobility and a good number of long-term employees (always a positive sign).
However, I believe Checkmk could significantly enhance career evolution by establishing clearer career paths, complemented by dedicated training for both soft and hard skills (a development I think is currently in progress).
Implementing a per-capita training budget (money-based or time-based) for "innovation sprint", or providing opportunities to attend conferences of our choice would also be nice additions to foster individual growth.
