Fender’s Vision Deserved Better Execution at Studio One

Ex-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat bis 2024 für dieses Unternehmen in Düsseldorf gearbeitet.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The brand and product vision were inspiring, and many colleagues outside my immediate team were welcoming and supportive. I also appreciated the modern equipment.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

A lack of accountability and psychological safety in my direct team. Harmful behavior went unaddressed, and meaningful support from leadership was missing when it mattered most.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Strengthen internal communication and implement clear conflict resolution practices.

Leadership should ensure that senior roles reflect not only tenure but also a willingness to mentor, collaborate, and stay current with industry standards.

Ongoing professional development and openness to new ways of working should be encouraged, especially in long-standing teams.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The overall atmosphere within my core team (UX/UI Design and UI Development) was tense and isolating. It was marked by resistance to change, dismissive behavior, and visible internal power struggles. Open communication was difficult, and constructive dialogue was often replaced by gossip or avoidance.

Most of the colleagues I met outside of this department were super kind, welcoming, and collegial.

Work-Life-Balance

Workload was generally manageable, but the emotional toll of unresolved team tensions and lack of psychological safety made it hard to fully disconnect after work. The mental strain carried into my personal life, which impacted my overall well-being despite reasonable hours.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Within my core team, there was no willingness to share knowledge, support onboarding, or collaborate respectfully.

Outside of my department, colleagues were generally friendly and helpful, and I felt welcomed and supported in many other interactions across the company.

However, the culture within my immediate team made it difficult to thrive.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Older colleagues were treated with respect. I didn’t observe any form of age-related discrimination, and senior team members appeared to have a strong sense of security in their roles.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

My immediate supervisor (UI Lead) created a difficult and emotionally draining environment. Onboarding support was lacking, questions were often met with eye-rolling or dismissive responses, and efforts to collaborate were undermined rather than encouraged.

Constructive feedback was not offered, and at times I was pulled into a power struggle I had no part in initiating. Attempts to clarify responsibilities or ask for support were met with defensiveness or denial.

Although I escalated the issue to upper management, the situation remained unresolved, which made it impossible to grow or feel psychologically safe in my role.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The working conditions were modern and well-equipped.
The office space was clean and contemporary, with height-adjustable desks and good equipment. I was able to choose my preferred laptop from a selection. However, as it was a shared office with many desks in one room, privacy was limited, and it could get loud at times.

Kommunikation

While the parent company (Fender) provided quarterly updates on overall performance, internal communication at the team level was inconsistent and confusing.

I often received conflicting instructions from the UI lead and the managing director, which made it hard to know how to prioritize tasks. Efforts to clarify expectations or align with leadership were largely ineffective.

Within my immediate team, communication lacked openness and clarity, and feedback was often expressed indirectly or behind closed doors rather than addressed constructively.

Gehalt/Benefits

The salary was paid on time. There were no broader social benefits, but the employee discount on Fender products was a nice extra.

Gleichberechtigung

As the only woman in the local team, I experienced both subtle and overt gender-based disadvantages. I was told during onboarding that the company was specifically looking to hire a woman to meet external expectations, which made me question whether I was valued for my skills. I encountered unsolicited romantic attention from a colleague that continued over time, despite my clear rejections, and it was not taken seriously when reported.

I also experienced moments of being excluded from communication and not taken seriously in professional discussions - treatment that I am confident would have looked different had I been a man. The professional contributions of my male colleagues were assumed, even when they lacked up-to-date skills, while I had to continuously prove my value under greater scrutiny.

The company culture did not demonstrate an active commitment to gender inclusion or equity, which made it difficult to feel safe or respected in the long term.

Interessante Aufgaben

The role itself offered a compelling combination of design and development responsibilities that aligned perfectly with my experience and long-term goals.

I was genuinely excited about the opportunity.

However, attempts to engage with the work were met with resistance from my direct lead. Despite making solid progress, I received no constructive support and often encountered undermining behavior. The potential of the role was high, but was ultimately blocked by internal dynamics beyond my control.
