Micromanagement and repetitive mistakes

2,0

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

In the social interactions among colleagues, I experienced more positives than negatives.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Can be derived from the suggestions for improvement.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

More trust in employees, less micromanagement, concise communication, management should learn from mistakes and not repeat them. Feedback should also be made possible to managers and supervisors, possibly also anonymously if employees can be made to feel less afraid.

If decisions are made by management and the majority of employees involved in the project criticise these decisions and express concerns, they should be discussed and not carried through anyway.

Appreciation of employees should be a top priority and everything possible should be done to ensure that experienced and talented employees stay.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Due to micromanagement, this often leads to a lot of stress. You have managers as superiors with whom you don't even have anything to do except when it comes to feedback. This also leads to incomprehensible and non-constructive feedback, which is not explained in spite of being asked what this feedback is based on, not even examples can be given.

Image

Unfortunately not a good image and I can only agree with that

Work-Life-Balance

Positive aspects are the flexible working hours and home-office during covid. However, it often happened that voluntary overtime was done, especially when others do it, you don't like to say no and help out. Since these overtime hours are voluntary, they are not compensated fairly and usually not at all. In fact, these overtime hours are caused by incorrect planning and could often have been avoided.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

I can't comment on career opportunities, but there are no further training opportunities.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Gamigo has partnered with the Eden Reforestation Projects to restore forest systems.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Among the teams, mostly positive. Between teams and manager levels rather less so.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

In my case, I had nothing to do with my supervisor or the supervisor had anything to do with the team I was in. Nevertheless, feedback was given about me which was not comprehensible or could be justified.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Height-adjustable desks would be appropriate.

Kommunikation

Communication and transparency from management is a very big problem and even though promises have been made to be more transparent, these have been empty promises. Decisions are not communicated properly or too late.

But also between departments, communication is often the reason for many misunderstandings. To be fair, I have to say that this is recognised and at least tried to be worked on - which I would also like to see from the management.

Interessante Aufgaben

Rather less.

HR-Team-

Dear colleague,

we hope that you are safe and healthy. Thanks a lot for your feedback about the working atmosphere and processes at gamigo. This helps us a lot to identify weaknesses and find solutions while trying to make gamigo a great place to work for all our employees.

We are very pleased that you rated gamigo so positively, especially in terms of supervisor behavior and equality opportunities. Diversity is an important part of our company culture and we work every day on giving every employee the best opportunities and possibilities to develop in a strong and inclusive environment.

You mentioned that the communication among each other is difficult because of Corona. We are working on finding tools and ways to simplify the communication within the entire gamigo group, but also to include every new employee into the gamigo community. Corona has nevertheless been a challenge for all of us in the past 2 years. Maybe you could tell let us know where communication sometimes failed, in your opinion. It would help us to get a better overview of the communication challenges you had so far and to see how we can optimize.

Our doors are always open and we would be more than happy to discuss some of the above points in person. Feel free to drop by our HR office or send us an email to hr@gamigo.com. All content of the discussions will of course be treated confidentially.

Best regards,
Your HR-team

HR-Team-

Hello ex-colleague,

thanks a lot for your feedback about your time at gamigo. We appreciate your honesty and openness which helps us a lot to reflect our working circumstances and improve them if necessary.

We are very happy to hear that you had positive experience with cohesion of colleagues in your team and the work-life-balance at gamigo. Of course, we know that working can be stressful and crazy from time to time but we do our best to support our employees in this times. Great to hear that this pays off!

However, we are somewhat shocked by your negative assessment of supervisor behavior and social awareness and would like to know the reasons for this. Unlike you mentioned, we take our employees seriously. Therefore, we would have liked you to come to our HR office to talk about the problems and sort them out.

But even after your time at gamigo, we'd love to hear more about your feedback. Feel free to write us an email to hr@gamigo.com. All these discussions are treated confidentially.

We are looking forward for your reply and wish you all the best for your future.

Best regards,
Your former HR-team

Great Colleagues, outdated practices.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Dogs are allowed (everyone loves dogs)
Colleagues on lower positions help eachother
Taking vacation and half days off is easy
Homeoffice is really really limited, but allowed. People often forget, that companys DONT have to offer homeoffice. So its nice of them to do that.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The Salary is very low.
A lot of politics within the company. If you dont agree with your supervisor you might get fired.
Still feels like hire and fire instead of training people. If you hire people without any experience in gaming, you have to train them.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Increase the salary to be atleast on the industry standard.
Start trusting your employees more.
HR should talk more with the employees. A lot of complains about supervisors and their decisions inside the teams that nobody ever hears of. People wont come directly to the HR, they are often scared.
Take feedback more seriously. A lot of people give up about giving feedback since nothing ever changes.
Coach and train everyone. People are often hired and expected to learn everything within some weeks without any documentation or training from supervisors.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

I barely ever got feedback related to my work. There isnt an easy way to find out if you are doing the correct thing. A lot of people are scared for their jobs and prefer to just say nothing and dont ask questions.

Image

A lot of people atleast in the lower positions talks negatively about the company. Public image is also heavily damaged by past decisions. But i feel like it is improving in the last 2 years.

Work-Life-Balance

I never had any problems taking last minute days off. Unfortunately you often have to work late hours due to different timezones. If you want to be productive you often have to do those late hours. Else you might miss conversations with US based people.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

You can ask for a new position or new opportunities. The main thing lacking here are people that are actually able to teach you things and make sure you improve.

Gehalt/Benefits

Salary is way below industry standard. Adding some money to the HVV ticket is not changing this. Promotions often end in more responsiblities but not in more money.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The main thing keeping everything together. The teams themselfes try to help eachother as much as possible. You have to be careful sometimes tho.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Older colleagues always got treated fairly. Atleast i never heared about something negativ.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Goals are often set in dimensions that dont make sense. A lot of "goals" and "suggestions" from supervisors seem outdated and not on the normal gaming industry level. Feedback mostly gets ignored.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The computers are heavily outdated. Sometimes they dont even run the games you are working on.
During summer depening on where your room is, you might get grilled. It gets really really hot in the rooms. Combinding no air cooler with 6-10 PCs running in 1 room makes it really really hot.

Kommunikation

Highly depends on the department and the supervisor. Some departments manage to communicate in a timly manner. Some dont. Often you find out about things via casual talking while smoking.

Gleichberechtigung

There arent many women in leading positions.
But a lot of different people from all around the world with different ethics work here closely together.

Interessante Aufgaben

No comment. I think this highly depends on your job and if you search for more work.

HR-Team-

Dear Ex-colleague,

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback. This is the only way that we, at gamigo, can continue to develop and improve our processes and services.

First of all, we are very happy about your positive feedback in regards to the cohesion and equality among colleagues. gamigo is an open minded and international company with colleagues from all over the world. Everyone is equally included, supported and every opinion matters. It is only natural for us to support each other. So, it is even nicer to hear that this is also lived in reality.

You mentioned nevertheless that you rarely received a feedback on your work. We are a bit surprised about that, as within gamigo, performance evaluation talks with all the employees are conducted on a bi-annual basis. This gives the employees the opportunity to talk to their manager about topics like their work performance and future development. Asking the manager for a feedback is at all times very much encouraged, not only during the performance evaluation talks.

Unfortunately, you also mentioned a few critical aspects, such as the working atmosphere, supervisor behavior, working conditions or salary. We take such topics very serious and feel sorry that you did not come to us at an earlier stage to talk about the problems and possibly sort them out. The HR team is always there to listen and to support the employees in such matters. But we do depend on our employees to bring them in a timely manner to our attention.

Thanks also for your numerous suggestions for improvement. We will take a closer look at them and see if and how your suggestions can be implemented within gamigo.

Even though you are not working for gamigo anymore, it would be great if we could have a closer exchange on the above-mentioned topics. Feel free to reach out to us under hr@gamigo.com. These types of discussions will always be treated confidentially and won#t affect you in any way.

Looking forward to your reply!

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

See the points

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

See the points

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Change the mentioned points.
Not for me as I'm already gone but for those who are still with you and all those to come

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Diversity is a beautiful thing but not the diversity of the way too many topics that need to be worked on. At least if they start to think about the workers one day not just the numbers.

Image

Google and you will see

Work-Life-Balance

There are very little homeoffice days per year (except those on the weekends) which is kinda unusual for a job like this.

Now with Covid19 in the world there is the possibility as I've learned fro people still working there but like in the first wave it did come very late and let's say they don't really encourage you to work from home.

If you do work from home there was s no compensation for your electric bill or your internet fee.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Not existing if you're not into kissing rear ends

Gehalt/Benefits

There are some little benefits like a fruits, water, bad coffe and subsidized tickets for public transportation but the wage itself is way too low even for this branch if the it industry.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Indeed this has been one of the more "positive" points IF you get drafted into the right department or come across the right coworkers (in the kitchen for example).
With bad luck (which is more likely to happen) you'll have to deal with people that like to talk ABOUT but not WITH other.

You will also need luck if you are new to what you will have to do (whatever that might be) because you most likely will have to search for everything on your own instead of being handed a list where to find all the things you need.

You may ask your coworkers but due to the variety in topics/projects that are worked on (for example different games in one room) the most likely won't know the correct answer as there is no common thread in nothing.

Unfortunately even those who are supposed to train you are included in the topics mentioned above.

Mistakes you're most likely to do do to this lack of communication will be on you (even though it might not be your fault at all).

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Did not encounter enough situations to really judge it so it goes medium to stay fair.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Depends on the department.
Some are okay, few are okay most of them lack the leadership core abilities like respect for your people, trust in your people, how to talk to them and take responsibility for mistakes they make due to various reasons that came from the company not from the employee.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Old machines, offices used as storerooms (while people have to work in them), but acceptable core hours.

Kommunikation

Not really able to judge the communication as there is almost none.
New coworkers get a little tour on the premises and get dropped into their room then having to look for all they need on their own.

Changes are most likely not announced in time (not officially but between the coworker there is some kind of "Oh did you hear..." mentality).

In general the communication coming from above is a mix from "Hey we are the best" and kinda rude "Deal with it as it has been my choice".
Good luck to get a cool supervisor (you gonna need it).

Gleichberechtigung

Diversity in terms of nationalities and gender is there but that's all.

Interessante Aufgaben

Did not encounter any.
Most of the people have to deal with games even a museum would not take due to the age and the condition of the game.

The F2P games haven't been that good the day they got released and haven't aged very well since than...

HR-Team-

Dear Ex-Colleague,

thank you very much for taking the time to write your honest and personal feedback, we really appreciate it.

We are sorry, that the image that you portray about gamigo is a negative one and we would have really appreciated it if you would have addressed all of your topics before you left the company. The HR doors are always open and we can’t stress it out enough, that all discussions are treated confidentially at all times. An earlier approach would have been more than welcome and would have maybe helped us understand earlier where the problems in your department were.

Even though we can understand your frustration in a few points, there are still many aspects, that just don’t coincide with our values, our culture or internal regulations.

In regards to the Home Office days: mid of March, every employee was sent into mandatory Home Office, without even having the possibility to come into the office, as the health of all our employees was and is on the first place. It was very much encouraged and still is.
Also, no job at Gamigo is a 100% Home Office job, so a subsidization of electric bills and internet fees is unfortunately not given. In all our interviews, we are always transparent about our home office situation and if this would have been important for you and your employment, we would have appreciated it to let us know, as we could have clarified it right from the start.

Concerning our games: we expect the candidates to have a look at the games, before their interview or before their start, we encourage it and inform about it during the recruitment process, so if someone can’t identify with the products that we offer, they have always the freedom to let us know and to choose before starting.
The same goes also with all of the working conditions and contractual terms . This is always transparent from the beginning and should not come as a surprise.

As for some of the other points, mentioned by you- if the communication within the department or with the supervisor isn’t working as it should be, we ask everyone, employee AND supervisor, to communicate in an open way. If that is not working, the HR department is always there to support.

We regret, that you didn’t feel the need to come and talk to us. Nevertheless, we would still be happy to hear from you, even if you’re not employed anymore within the company, to better understand your concerns and problems that you faced during your employment.

You can always reach out to us under hr@gamigo.com.

We wish you all the best on your future endeavors!

Spannendes Umfeld, katastrophale Organisation

3,3

Hallo liebe Ex-Kollegin, lieber Ex-Kollege,

The people, the envrionment, the athomsphere, the flexibility, open communication and you can even bring your dog to work :-)

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Nothing more to add than I already did above.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

More Home Office days would be nice; more trust in the employees; maybe a bit less micromanagement; a clear career path or development plan for the employees (especially for the young colleagues who start their first job with the company)

Arbeitsatmosphäre

Nice colleagues, positive vibes, I enjoy coming to work

Image

As I can see from other comments, the image is not that good. I can't completely understand as the company has improved throughout time.

Work-Life-Balance

Some more Home Office days would be nice. There are ocassionally over time hours, but they are evened out.
We have flexible working hours, which helps also.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

The company doesn't really proactively invest in the development of the employees and there is no clear career path for the colleagues. You can nevertheless develop yourself if you ask for it and argumwent it well.

Gehalt/Benefits

Can't complain much. It is paid on time. Benefits are also ok.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

I have no idea whatsoever of it, so this might be improved or advertised more.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Colleagues really stick together, help each other, organize a lot of get togethers even outside office hours, the collaboration is really good and you feel welcome from the first day on.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

It's hard to judge that, as there are not many older people, but those that are, are treated with the same respect.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

I personally can't complain about my manager, as the communication is good, I feel appreciated and supported, it's a good collaboration. I guess it depends on each department. But from what I've seen, other managers could improve their relationship and communication with the colleagues from their teams.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The hardware is not the newest, there are colleagues who still work on desktop PC's that have been reused and recycled, so I think the company could invest a bit more in that.
Other than that, the offices are nice, "employeefriendly", you have basically all you need...except some good coffee, which I personally don't recommend :-))

Kommunikation

Could always be better but I feel that all the important information is communicated at all times. The management organizes on a monthly basis an all hands meeting where everyone is invited and can find out news about the company.

Gleichberechtigung

We have many colleagues from a lot of different countries, people of different ages, different nationalities, women in managing positions, so there is a huge diversity and I have never felt any discrimination whatsoever.

Interessante Aufgaben

This is one of the things I like about the company: you never get bored, there are always interesting tasks, a variety of diverse tasks.

Dear colleague,

thank you very much for the time invested in writing your review about the Gamigo group and for your constructive feedback.

We are really happy to hear that you are overall happy about the company and that you would recommend gamigo further.

As for the critical points that you addressed (“more trust in employees”, “less micromanagement” or a lack of a “career path”), we are constantly thriving to improve ourselves, to optimize the processes and to address all the points that are not going so smoothly or that have room for improvement.

As you are still employed within the company, we would be more than happy to have a personal discussion with you in order to talk about the improvements that have already been made but also to understand where we can help you and your colleagues further.

We would like to stress out, that every discussion with the HR department will be treated confidentially and will not influence you in any way.

Drop by for a coffee in our office ;-) or reach out to us under hr@gamigo.com
