Pressure within the company is mounting. Management is unable to find an answer or a solution to the company’s financial situation and the poor market conditions in the tourism industry, or to determine how to address them.
Outwardly, they come across as very full of themselves. Appearances can be deceiving, and anyone who looks behind the façade will soon realise this.
It’s great that you can actually work 100 per cent remotely. Unfortunately, management has little experience with remote leadership.
If you’re a bit clever about it, you can get away with working significantly less without anyone noticing.
There are no opportunities for career progression. Unless, that is, you’re on very good terms with senior management. However, there are no clear leadership or specialist career paths.
Salary below market rate. Benefits are okay, but I’ve seen better.
It isn’t discussed. Those who market flights and cruises may not be particularly interested in it either.
Most of my colleagues are nice and it’s fun working with them.
Hardly any or very little.
Here, you have to make a clear distinction between C-level management and heads/leads.
C-level management isn’t very involved. Unless, that is, you’re unlucky enough for the topic you’re working on to be the focus of attention at that moment. In that case, you’ll quickly find yourself being micromanaged.
Heads and leads go to great lengths to do a good job. However, they’re also at the mercy of C-level management.
As I said, the pressure is mounting. We’re cutting costs wherever we can – on salaries, software licences, team events and the training budget.
One cannot count on the management to be honest. What began as a search for external investors turned into the sale of the company to a Chinese conglomerate.
The severance packages and leave of absence arrangements for redundant staff, which were supposedly so generous, were in fact the opposite.
The only thing that is regularly communicated is that we are lagging behind the business case
A high proportion of female staff and female managers.
It really depends on which area or department you end up in.
You have a remarkable ability at putting together good teams made of decent people. Give them the leadership and guidance they deserve.
There seems to have been a mounting decline in terms of respect and care for the employees. Some people who have recently left the company have been dismissed without a "goodbye" or any form of thanks for their hard work. Some other decisions taken by the leadership team have been a complete failure, but no accountability has ever been taken and entire teams have been dismantled instead. The power that certain elements inside the C-level suite hold is strongly disproportional to their capabilities and, frankly, inexplicable. Trust is at an all-time low, and risks to go even lower without a significant change in terms of attitude and understanding. Micromanagement is also very widespread and is causing a strong sense of despair and mistrust.
Trust your reports more, and try listening to them when they suggest changes or adjustments or resist new initiatives that might backfire. Bizarre and self-promotional initiatives are already costing the company money, talent and time, as well as causing mounting discontent. On a similar note, empathy, understanding and communication often go a long way: you are free to take business decisions, as painful as they might be, but basic decency is never optional.
The team is fun, and people are talented, compassionate and great to work with. The company definitely does a good job in keeping the company culture at its core.
Could be improved, however flexible working hours and the fully remote policy are definitely rare to find nowadays.
The salary is very uncompetitive, and the explanations given for the lack of inflation adjustment were very faulty and unsatisfactory.
I have never noticed any conflict or issue among team members. People seem to work well together and are often friends outside of office hours.
Older colleagues are respected, and never mistreated or singled out.
Also here, it depends. Leads and heads try their best to help and support their reports, while C-level is often brutal in their interactions (this, however, does apply only to some C-level executives and not to the whole suite): coldness, bluntness, almost rage are often barely concealed, and there is a tendency at taking bizarre and irresponsible business decisions whose fall is ultimately always taken by less important employees. The recent hiring of an executive whose role is basically that of a "hatchet man" is self-explanatory.
It depends. Generally line managers are pretty open and communicative, and really try to build a sense of trust inside their teams. On the other hand C-level is often shady and impulsive, and rarely opens up. The same partial and confused explanations are used over and over, as if they were some sort of defensive shield. In one case, a very bad command of English has also proven to be problematic and the source of many awkward and challenging conversations.
Good attempts at gender equality have been made.
Remote first Company, von daher super!
The flexibility is the main selling point. You get your life back.
Might be too informal at times - if you expect rigid professionalism, even at parties, maybe don't work at a pirate themed company.
Maybe find a way to support more introverted employees - although i guess by definition they may just want space to do their thing.
Day to day, its very good.
It can be quite informal, but that's a relief as my experience in offices with intense power distance or strict adherence to hierarchy has always been negative. Whereas here, the higher ups are approachable and collaborative.
If you are an introvert, or perhaps just a little more nervous it might be more challenging. took me a while to adjust.
Answering where I work at parties is always fun. People seem curious.
Exceptional. Hybrid, flexible work policy with plenty of workation options like this is rare. Seems particularly good for parents.
Bosses have always created opportunities for me to build skills and my career
They've got an 3rd party salary-band benchmarking tool now which has massively improved things. I now know what to expect and where i stand, relative to my colleagues, peers and even other industries. The transparency is great.
HolidayPirates presents a range of travel options, including many environmentally/socially friendly ones. But they don't control what performs well. At the end of the day users choose where they want to go and how to get there without us shaming them or acting as moral arbiters.
I suppose if it concerns you then perhaps it's not the best fit - joining and then griping about it seems like a very weird move as you chose to participate when you applied.
Certainly no worse than other offices I've worked in. People can and will fall out - wherever they work - but even speaking as a cynic, I've seen the conflict resolution systems here fulfill its function well. That's due to the HR partners being legit good - they really care about the crew.
the company definitely does err on the younger side.
I've only had good experiences. higher ups have always dealt fairly.
Mostly remote work, but efforts made to supply everyone with tools they need. Macbooks are a nice premium choice, and ergonomic gear to help out.
10 localized markets all collaborating from all over Europe and North America. It's not exactly seamless yet, but efforts are made to improve things every day.
seems well balanced.
it's different every day. which suits me.
Some lovely and competent colleagues who gladly share knowledge and try to support as much as they can
Incompetent and toxic management
No ethical backbone
Terrible atmosphere because of terrible leads. The company hires leads blindly with no actual check of qualifications/experiences which leads to incompetent yet highly arrogant people leading actual experts. Various cases of harassment, it is known in the company but no one addresses the problem and employees end up leaving the company because of burn-outs.
Above-mentioned problems are widely known in the professional world in Berlin
Dozens of burn-outs.
Way lower than the usual salaries (in Berlin at least)
None but that comes from the industry which sees no problem selling plane tickets for short distances or sending people in countries with child labour, sharia & co
Incompetent leads make for very bad communication between employees who oftentimes are manipulated against each other.
Not a lot of older colleagues
Can one give a minus grade? Leads create conflicts between team members, they don't communicate with one another and set goals that are completely contradictory
Cases of harassment towards women

“Come as you are” wird hier gelebt.
The respect everyone is given. Every voice is heard!
I really love working with my colleagues, everyone is always respectful and very nice
Since the company decided to become remote-first my life has been much easier! I can plan my day and take breaks for appointments etc. very freely. The fact that we can work from anywhere makes everything even better!
I love what I do and I can grow in my position.
It could be better (it can always be ;) but the freedom one enjoys (both in time and in the decision-making) make the difference!
The team ist the best!Colleagues have a real hands-on attitude and are ready to explain and teach new things
I think the communication is very good , especially if one considers that we are a remote first company and you always have to adjust and decide which channel to use. Of course here can be some improvement but I think this is normal
So verdient kununu Geld.
