The work environment is completely unhealthy and sad. The boss is a woman with a very big ego and personal insecurities, who thinks only of herself and lives in a complete fantasy in which she is a businesswoman in a successful film company, but the reality is quite different. The company is in complete chaos. There is no organisation because the boss does not assume her responsibility to run the business and be a leader. There is no established work hierarchy and no proper division of labour. Psychological mistreatment and harassment are very frequent.
Most of the ex-employees of this company are afraid of telling the truth about what happens inside the offices and about the harassment they received from the owner/boss of this company. But even thought, the truth is that the company has very bad reputation in the film industry worldwide.
It is very difficult to reconcile work and family life because the boss thinks she owns the whole life of her employees. For example, in organising a trip to a film market, she got tickets for the team to travel five days before the market started (when they had to be there at most two days before) without prior communication or agreement with the employees. The boss has no personal life and tries to fulfil her personal agenda with personal plans with the employees. Besides, given the general disorganisation of the company, employees are obliged to make several daily extra hours which makes it harder to have time with their family.
It is impossible to continue your education working in this company because you won't have time or energy for anything else. The career does not growth because the company activity is very low because of the lack of a managing director.
There are no benefits and the salary is too low for the psychological mistreatment that employees receive. The boss takes advantage of the vulnerability of her team members to offer them very low wages and inadequate working conditions. For example, on long working trips (American Film Market in USA, Berlinale, Marche du film at the Cannes Film Festival) she does not pay per diems that German law requires to be paid. I have been in contact with several ex-employees and most of them has not received the Empfehlungsschreiben that is compulsory by German law, the boss/owner of the company has never sent it.
No attention is paid to social or environmental awareness. Waste is not even separated properly in the office. Plastics are thrown into the general waste. While working in the office I was surprised that the Stadt Koeln did not fine them for these irregularities.
Although the team is very small (no more than 2 or 3 people) it is difficult to have colleague cohesion because the boss talks badly about everyone to everyone. This leads to the lack of trust between them. Most employees do not work in the company for more than 6 months (probation period). There are many cases of people who lasted only 2-3 months because the working environment is very difficult to cope with. Team meetings where the boss mistreats one of the employees in front of the others are very frequent.
The boss/owner of the company is a mean person and lacks of knowledge about the field of work (film industry). She has strong personal insecurities that lead her to try to make employees feel that they are not good enough. The boss/owner of the company tries to have personal plans with employees during the weekend. For example, it is very common that a few minutes before the end of the working hour in the office the boss orders pizza and invites everyone to stay for dinner with her. That would be fine if she didn't get angry when an employee says he or she won't stay. She has even stranger behaviours: for example after I had an argument with her, the next few days she tried to avoid me in the office and didn't speak to me any more, telling me that whatever I had to say to her I should talk to a colleague.
The employees work unnecessary overtime every day, which is not agreed in advance. The boss takes it upon herself to pretend that she does not realise that this situation exists. It is very common for the boss to arrive late and organise team meetings 15 minutes before the employees have to leave.
The boss tries to give as little information as possible about the tasks to be performed by the employees and about the company. Sometimes because she has no leadership skills and sometimes because she takes advantage of these misunderstandings to mistreat the employees. Repeatedly the boss told me that I was not involved with the company because I did not perform a task that she had never told me to do, or even more, I did not even know that such a task existed. The boss is most of the time absent from the company and communicates via Skype chat, which she uses to give incomplete information. Her mistreatment is very common when employees ask her questions while she is not in the office.
Women and men are mistreated equally by the boss. Theboss/ owner of the company takes advantage of hiring people from abroad (e.g. Latin America) who are in difficult situations.
There is nothing interesting in this company, because it is not even worth the work they do in the film industry. The company is too small and the boss is too pretentious in what she pretends to be.
The only shining review on this site was written by none other than the employer herself. It's so transparent that she wrote the review because she obsesses over the most trivial details, like the view and the balcony. Who in their right mind cares about a balcony when they're being exploited and gaslighted on a daily basis? It's like she's completely detached from the reality of her employees' experiences.
She inhabits a parallel universe where she bends and twists reality to suit her whims. A sick mind playing tricks on itself. It's like she's the star of her own delusional movie, where she's the hero and everyone else is just an extra. Hollywood has nothing on her imagination, that's for sure.
The employer is evil, mean, and a pushover in every possible way. Respect and manners are foreign words, it's all greed, wickedness, and selfishness. Working hours are not regulated, employer promotes that. The verbal abuse and the melodramatic tantrums that pass for company management make you question the sanity of this world. How Scrooge would end up his days? take a look here. Hey, at least Scrooge had the decency to keep their villainy confined to a smaller circle. I would say that the employer, influenced by pervasive loneliness, became a prime example of how one's character can deteriorate under such circumstances into a putrid being.
Rumor has it that the employer has connections with everyone in town, and honestly, it's not surprising considering how many people from the industry have come and gone through this revolving door of a company. This place has seen more quick exits than a magic show.
PD: Some ex-employees formed a group and still meet to remember the worst job in their lives. Tell me about collective misery.
Quit.
A masterclass in how to undermine and demean employees.
When it comes to the image of this company, it's no secret that it's widely regarded as a terrible place to work. The word is out, and people can sense it from a mile away. The constant turnover of employees is a telltale sign that something is seriously amiss. Dealing with a new face every month has become a regular occurrence, further solidifying the company's reputation as an unstable and undesirable workplace. It's hard to hide the truth when it's so glaringly obvious.
Work-Life-Balance? It might as well have been a mythical creature in that company.
Don't even get me started on the salary. It's so abysmal that you'd make more money working in a restaurant or washing dishes, and you'd probably have a lot more peace of mind too. Let's be honest - the company dances on the edge of the line regarding employee rights. Some activities may be considered... unethical, not to mention "out of line"...
While the colleagues themselves were generally decent people, it was hard not to notice how the toxic work environment had taken a toll on their social skills.
No older colleagues.
Lies lies, and more lies. A never-ending web of lies. It seemed like the employer had a knack for fabricating stories and spreading misinformation. Each day would begin with hearing a complaint about a coworker, feeding into a toxic culture of distrust and discord. It was as if the superior took pleasure in creating chaos and playing mind games with their employees.
I can only laugh at the employer's feeble attempt to paint the company as more "human" due to its small size. No smart person in their right mind would ever make such a claim about that little hole. It's laughable, really. The truth is, being a small business doesn't automatically make it more compassionate or considerate towards its employees. If anything, it often magnifies the flaws and shortcomings. We can only shake our heads and chuckle at the employer's misguided attempt to justify the unjustifiable.
Panic and anxiety were constant companions, even over the most trivial matters. The pressure before market deadlines would reach such intensity that people would be screaming and even crying. It was a distressing sight to witness, and it highlighted the toxic atmosphere that permeated the workplace. Instead of fostering a supportive and calm environment, the company bred an atmosphere of fear, stress, and emotional turmoil. It's no wonder that employees were pushed to their breaking points under such conditions.
The employer's laziness and dismissive attitude towards listening made it feel utterly pointless to even attempt to ask questions. Sometimes, you would be met with an angry reply, as if you were disrupting their precious bubble of self-importance. Other times, you might receive support, but it felt entirely dependent on their ever-changing mood. And let's not forget the extremely condescending replies that made you question your own intelligence. It was a frustrating cycle of uncertainty.
While we all experienced poor treatment to some extent, the employer had a knack for selectively choosing individuals to congratulate and uplift while simultaneously diminishing others. It was like watching a twisted game of favoritism unfold before our eyes, where success was measured by who managed to stay in the employer's good graces. The inconsistency and unfairness of it all left a bitter taste in our mouths. We were reminded that equality was merely a distant dream in that workplace, overshadowed by the employer's arbitrary preferences and biased judgments.
It was all about the basics but the employer thinks it's rocket science. Simple tasks and everyday routines were treated as if they were super important. You learn to navigate the employer's warped perception and find humor in this exaggerated sense of importance.
- Hohe Erwartungen = Fordernd
Was soll man dazu groß sagen?
Hoch interessant!
Gutes Verhalten, hat hohe Erwartungen ,menschlich sehr umgänglich, sehr einfühlsam
Sehr anspruchsvoll
