The relationship and daily collaboration within immediate team/department was fine. However, cross-departmental cooperation is highly flawed and lacks a collaborative spiritwork environment
Overtime is widely expected but rarely valued. Managers implicitly demand that employees go above and beyond, yet proper appreciation or compensation for this extra effort is entirely lacking
Career growth here is nonexistent for the vast majority of staff. Departmental and upper leadership positions are held by a select few who secure multiple promotions by taking credit for the hard work of employees lower in the hierarchy. While those at the top continuously climb, the lower tiers remain permanently stagnant, trapped in dead-end roles with zero opportunities for advancement
Salary is below the industry average. There is no structured process for proper raises, and extra effort does not translate into financial recognition. The company operates with an extreme lack of internal investment, routinely claiming there is "no budget" for basic operational needs.
If an employee experiences or witnesses harassment, they cannot safely report it because doing so carries a direct risk of termination. The company relies heavily on performative branding, using aggressive greenwashing tactics.
Loyalty is not rewarded here. Long-serving colleagues are poorly appreciated and dismissed under the pretext of financial restructuring. Furthermore, personal conflicts with management seem to play a major role in personnel decisions, leading to unfair dismissals based on personal bias rather than professional metrics.
Constructive criticism is often taken personally by leadership rather than being viewed as an opportunity for improvement. There is a noticeable lack of professional distance and transparency in decision-making. Furthermore, the tone was occasionally unprofessional, including inappropriate remarks regarding the background and origin of colleagues."
Highly untransparent. Decisions and processes are rarely communicated in a traceable manner. Unfortunately, an open, cross-hierarchical dialogue at eye level does not take place
The necessary sensitivity in interpersonal interactions is sometimes lacking. Inappropriate comments regarding the cultural or national background of team members have unfortunately placed a heavy strain on the working environment
The provided work hardware is inadequate. Additionally, the offices are quite cramped and lack air conditioning, making the working environment very uncomfortable, especially during the summer months.
A lot of decisions are kept confidential and are not communicated properly. Important changes and strategic choices are often withheld, leaving employees in the dark rather than fostering a transparent culture
Leadership relies heavily on linguistic exclusion; all critical decision-making and "power talks" are intentionally conducted in German. As a foreigner or expat, you are systematically shut out of these conversations and kept out of the loop, ensuring you remain structurally disadvantaged while they run the show entirely on their own terms. While they project an outward image of friendliness, this is a manipulative facade.
Final Word
Working at POHA can be useful if you want to gain startup exposure and are willing to play politics quietly. But if you value integrity, transparency, and professional growth, this is not the place for you. Behind the branding is a toxic culture lacking accountability, structure, and genuine values.
Work Environment
Disorganization is the norm. Processes are ad hoc, documentation is poor or nonexistent, and roles are often unclear. Teams are understaffed and overburdened, leading to regular burnout and high turnover. Responsibilities are dumped without proper support or structure, especially onto junior employees.
Career Growth & Development
There are no meaningful career development structures in place. Promotions and recognition are arbitrary and often based on favoritism rather than performance. If you challenge the status quo or ask for clarity, you’re seen as a threat — not a contributor.
Sustainability & Greenwashing
The company’s “green” positioning is mostly surface-level. Much of the sustainability narrative is inflated for marketing purposes. Decisions around materials, partners, and operational practices often prioritize cost or convenience — not sustainability. Internally, there is little to no accountability around these claims. It’s greenwashing with a glossy website.
Culture & Leadership
Critical thinking, transparency, and open communication are not welcomed at POHA, despite claims to the contrary. Speaking up — even constructively — results in being sidelined, gaslighted, or bullied by leadership. Feedback loops are broken, and dissent is quietly punished. The leadership team favors blind compliance and internal politics over merit or contribution. Psychological safety simply does not exist.
