Great Company, not everything is perfect, but a lot is getting better

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The Company is doing a lot to make the work place great, provides additional services like added health care or pension. The work is very interesting. It is a market lead and always growing. And also the work with the people is great and it is definitely possible to make a great career here.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Communication and Change management as stated before. Also there is an attitude that we know everything better than anybody else, which quite clearly is not true (its never true anywhere). This leads to us reinventing things that others already solved. This is probably an IT thing, but it is very pronounced here. Because of mostly positive communication to employees there is also a tendency to overestimate how great the product is. It is a great product but like anything has flows and weaknesses. This needs an honest look at things to get an even greater product. There are quite a few people that want to drive this mind shift into the company, me and my part of the org being one of these.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Better Communication to the R&D team and better follow through and driving on changes. Org Change management is another weak point. The company always wants to improve, but doesn't do a good job of managing that change.

Kommunikation

This is the big negative in this Company, especially in R&D. Things get communicated hap hazard, open to misinterpretation, followup and follow through is thought often to just happen without anybody driving things.

To give an example that was mentioned here before: Autonomy. There is a lot of complain that this is an empty phrase, and to some degree this is true. It is true because Autonomy is there on how to achieve objectives. That second part is not properly emphasized when talking about Autonomy. This leads to people flaunting Autonomy as a reason not to work on certain things. This is either accepted (meaning the wrong things are worked upon) or overruled which then often leads to micro management and frustration on both sides.

Another example is communication that certain things have priority and must be focused on, actually a perfect message, yet it is then often taken as working on anything else even if it can be proven that that other thing is business critical and must happen.

The Company is getting better here, but has a long way to go.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The people are one of the big plusses in this Company, I really love working with the people here.

Work-Life-Balance

The Company is demanding a lot, but is also honestly trying to provide a good work life balance. If there is a negative it is that if overtime piles up it is not properly managed by much of the mid management. In my department I am the mid management so I am taking extra care of ensuring that people don't make undue overtime.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

In my case this couldn't be much better, also higher up the chain in R&D things are great. Again communication to the wider org is a weak point here, but if one talks to them then things are great.

Interessante Aufgaben

I think this is probably one of the biggest benefits, the work is very interesting and there is always new things to tackle if one wants to do so. It is true that well known names a often predisposed to get new and interesting things to do, but it is also true that new people work on lots of exciting things and can get new exciting assignments if they "ask" for them.

Gleichberechtigung

This is a hard one to judge from my perspective. I have a mixed team with Austrians and several Expats - I treat them all the same and would hope that this is also the case in other places. Same for women. That being said I can't easily judge that from my perspective

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

One of my team mates is in his fifties and was when he joined, he is treated like everybody else.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Salary in the past used to be average, but the new management really stepped up things, in terms of salary but also transparency. A wide range of people have equity and bonuses. I would say that Salaries are above Austrian market at the moment. In my area nobody every asked for a hike, as we make sure to hike people appropriatly.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Everybody can make a great career here, but there is no "Career planning". I actually think this is ok, Career should be something one works for him/her self and not something somebody provides for you. Responsibility should be taken before it is given. Additional Education is something that I think has gotten a lot better in the last years especially i R&D. in Product Management things are still a bit "find it yourself" but also getting more professional now.
