The good old times that are lost forever?!

Upper Leadership considers the Voluntary Leaver Program (VLP), designed to reduce the IT workforce by 1,150 employees, to be concluded. However, many employees continue to struggle with its consequences on a daily basis.

Many were rejected without a transparent explanation, despite their current teams and/or roles not being part of the target picture, and are now being moved into new roles and/or teams without their consent or prior alignment. Others signed the VLP under the threat of compulsory redundancies but would now prefer to stay due to their personal circumstances, such as the need to provide for their families. This is particularly difficult to understand given that more than enough employees applied for the VLP to meet the reduction target. This should have made it possible for those who submitted their applications out of desperation and under pressure from leadership to remain with the company, while allowing employees who genuinely wish to leave—for example due to forced role changes or a lack of alignment with the company's new objectives—to take their place. Unfathomably, some employees who signed the VLP are now being asked to remain with the company because they are still needed to keep operations running—not by swapping places with employees whose VLP applications were rejected, but by returning after having already signed to leave.

The workforce has no transparency into what happened behind closed doors. When employees request information under the DSGVO, they are told that details of the VLP selection process are a business secret. The communicated "first come, first served" principle was clearly not applied. Instead, it appears that some employees were systematically targeted for departure, while others seemingly never had a realistic chance of being accepted because the company, for undisclosed reasons, wanted to retain them. At the same time, there are employees whom the company now appears to regret letting go, only one month after they signed their termination agreements.

The entire process has left many employees questioning the fairness and transparency of the program. It has become an unnecessary social experiment that tested the resilience and capacity for suffering of an entire workforce.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Why isn't the company considering a fair solution, such as allowing employees who genuinely want to leave to swap their VLP places with employees who want to stay? This would help avoid losing everyone eventually—whether through the VLP or through voluntary resignations by the remaining workforce, who, after receiving no compensation opportunity, are now actively looking for new jobs in response to this circus production proudly sponsored by ALDI.
