I wish to shed some light on my experiences as a Non-European Intern at AVL Software and Functions GmbH in the HiL and VCU departments. This review is intended to put forth a question about the integrity and work culture at AVL. I have worked for more than a year in the above-mentioned departments.
Starting with the HiL Department. I was assigned a German mentor working under a German Manager. The fact that they were German must be taken seriously. To start off, I was essentially picked up by this department for work pertaining to HiL testing and simulations. To my surprise, as the very first task, I was asked by my Manager to carry out the shifting of technical apparatus from one room to another for a different department altogether. At that time, I was not sure if it was my responsibility to handle such kind of work, especially for another department. I carried out the work without asking any questions. That was a good thing to do on my part but was it ethical on the Manager’s part? I was never actually properly mentored by my mentor. Further, I was never assigned any proper task which ultimately resulted in wastage of my crucial time which I could have utilized

Liebe Kollegin, lieber Kollege,
wir bedauern sehr, dass Du Dein Praktikum bei uns nicht als Bereicherung empfunden hast. In allen unseren Unternehmensbereichen, auch im Hardware-in-the-Loop Team und Vehicle-Controls-Team wird sehr viel Wert auf Integration gelegt. Dies ist einer der Erfolgsfaktoren unserer internationalen Teams. Allein innerhalb der AVL Software and Functions GmbH sind Kollegen aus über 40 verschiedenen Nationalitäten vereint, die erfolgreich auf allen Hierarchieebenen zusammenarbeiten.
Nachdem wir, von uns selbst entwickelte, hochsensible Mess- und Simulationssysteme zum Einsatz bringen, ist es uns auch sehr wichtig, kleine Umzüge dieses Equipments selbst durchzuführen. So stellen wir die entsprechende Verfügbarkeit sicher. Umzüge sind bei uns Ausnahmen. Die Projektarbeit mit unseren Mess- und Simulationssystemen ist unser Tagesgeschäft.
