For two decades now, I’ve walked in and out of Brainlab’s doors - and it still doesn’t feel like routine, but like a privilege. I completed my apprenticeship here as an IT specialist for system integration (Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration), so I can’t compare Brainlab to other employers. But perhaps you don’t need comparisons when you’ve found a place that continues to feel right, year after year. There have been countless reasons to stay - and apparently never enough to leave.
I was trained well, not only in technical expertise but also on a human level. Shortly after finishing my apprenticeship, I was entrusted with a critical part of our infrastructure - supported with trust, room to grow, and colleagues who coached, challenged, and inspired me. I had the chance to work on countless complex projects, side by side with colleagues who have long since become close friends.
Today, five years into leading a team within our Corporate IT, I feel the same as I did back then: pride, joy, and purpose.
Brainlab develops software that helps doctors around the world save lives. The impact is real. And every morning I know that what we do here matters. Is there anything more fulfilling?
Brainlab offers so much for its employees: an entirely free in-house gym, fantastic subsidized meals, unforgettable parties, and regular training opportunities.
I was even able to take a sabbatical. Brainlab supports growth, wellbeing, and development.
Brainlab is led in a very dynamic way - and yes, that very dynamism can makes it challenging at times. Decisions move quickly, priorities shift, and situations arise that no handbook could prepare you for. But we navigate these challenges together. Solutions are never created in isolation, but through open exchange, collaboration, and genuine teamwork. Even the complex becomes solvable when shared.
All these elements have brought us to where we are today: one of the most innovative med-tech companies in the world.
After 20 years, I can say without hesitation: Brainlab is not just my employer. It is the place where I grew up, where I was trusted with responsibility, where innovation is truly tangible, and where people matter.
And every day, I look forward to contributing my small part to a truly meaningful mission. Together we're making an impact!
A bit more flexibility for Home Office.
Overall, Brainlab offers a great working environment, and I truly like the idea behind asking employees to be in the office three days a week. It strengthens collaboration, communication, and the overall team spirit.
But I would love to offer more flexibility as a manager, especially for colleagues with family abroad. It would be a wonderful addition if we could allow them to extend a trip home by one or two weeks and work remotely from there.
I fully understand that there may be legal or logistical hurdles - but perhaps not impossible ones. Even a small amount of additional flexibility could make a big difference in personal wellbeing and job satisfaction, especially for our international team members who are highly valued.
After almost 20 years at Brainlab IT, the atmosphere still feels special. It’s open, friendly, and filled with people who genuinely care about what they do. Even when things get hectic, the way we treat each other stays respectful and supportive. Many of us have been here for a long time, and that creates a sense of togetherness that honestly feels a bit like family. I have the pleasure to work with some of my best friends for years!
Whenever I tell people I work at Brainlab, the reaction is always excitement. And when I explain what we actually do, people are just impressed. Working for a company that develops technology used to save lives is something I feel proud of every day.
Many of us are ready to walk the extra mile - for their teammates, our products, and our customers. At the same time, Brainlab offers a lot that helps maintain balance: a fully financed gym, amazing subsidized food, flexibility for personal matters, and even a sabbatical, which I was grateful to take. You get the trust to manage your own balance, even when the work can be demanding.
I started here as an apprentice and grew into a manager role. That was possible because I was always supported - through coaching, mentoring, training, and trust. If you want to develop your career, Brainlab gives you the opportunity to do so.
The salary at Brainlab is fair and grows with your experience, responsibilities and with the years. In my case, staying with the company long-term has paid off. I feel fairly compensated and appreciated, not just through salary but also through the overall benefits package: amazing food, the fully financed gym, great events, training opportunities, and many small extras that show real appreciation.
I appreciate the many everyday decisions that show Brainlab’s awareness in this area. There are always vegetarian and vegan options, and even the free coffee stations come with oat milk. In IT, we constantly work on being more efficient and environmentally friendly, with many initiatives running quietly (also within IT) in the background that make a real difference.
This is probably the biggest reason I’ve stayed for two decades: the people. We’ve handled so many complex projects together, and many colleagues have become friends. We support each other, we laugh together, we face challenges as a team and spend even private time together.
That spirit has carried us a long way.
Age has honestly never played a big role at Brainlab. What has always mattered is what you bring to the table - your ideas, your experience, your attitude. The mix of younger and more experienced colleagues has always been one of our strengths, and everyone is aware of that.
As I am also not the youngest anymore, throughout all these years at Brainlab, I’ve always felt fully supported - both personally and in my role - by my manager as well as by HR. No matter the age, people are valued for who they are and what they contribute.
Leadership at Brainlab is dynamic and sometimes fast-changing. Priorities shift, decisions come quickly, and you need to stay adaptable. But you’re never alone in that. We work through challenges together and always try to find solutions as a team. As a manager, I personally try to support everyone individually and consider their personal situations - and that approach is very much aligned with the culture here.
The working conditions are excellent: modern offices, great equipment, a fully financed gym, and a company restaurant that honestly cooks at near fine-dining quality. It even won a national award for the best corporate restaurant in Germany. You can feel that employee well-being is taken seriously.
Brainlab is very dynamic, so communication must happen fast and directly. That can be challenging at times, but you always find someone who listens, thinks with you, and helps to find a solution. Conversations are straightforward and honest.
Equality at Brainlab is truly lived, not just stated. From day one, I was treated as a full and valued team member - never “just an apprentice,” but an equal colleague. Everyone gets real opportunities.
Recently, we also launched an LGBTQ+ initiative. It reflects how seriously Brainlab takes inclusion and how committed we are to creating a workplace where everyone can feel safe, respected, and welcome.
There’s no shortage of interesting and meaningful work. Right after my apprenticeship, I was entrusted with critical parts of our infrastructure. Since then, I’ve been part of countless exciting and complex projects. What motivates me most is knowing that the products we develope support doctors in saving lives - around the world. That purpose drives me every single day.
Communication with all hierarchy levels relatively easy. Decisions are taken fast for a big company. Good and collaborative atmosphere. The gym and restaurant.
Career development and little to no salary increases.
Work on gender equality. Allowance for unpaid holiday would be a plus.
The work atmosphere is pretty good — colleagues are collaborative, and the overall environment is positive and supportive. You can influence and change things.
Very nice building and design.
No personal development and the training budget is very small. Not many learning opportunities in general. Working here feels like everything you ask for is too expensive.
Very difficult to get a salary increases.
Very good
In my department quite good.
Communication could be improved. No clear company strategy and no long term project priorization.
It is quite obvious that men are the favorite choice for Management positions.
The tasks are interesting and you can have an impact. Still start up spirit, so there's no structured project teams, budget and resource planning.
...
Great gym and food. Over all really nice colleagues and interesting tasks.
Transparency in communication for changes and for pay rise can be improved.
Being more transparent with pay rise and talking about it and make them more in time not 6 months later.
Depending on the department, but in my department it is a great leadership. I get support when needed but I have the freedom to grow.
Great equipment and the gym is awesome.
Changes are often not communicated in a transparent way. It is often kept as a secret.
Could be better compared to other same sized companies in Munich.
It is a big topic and I think in the teams it is equal. But in the C level it is still only men.

Point of improvement: working from abroad is very limited and takes a long process to approve.
E-learnings available but other than that it seemed not easy to get trainings. Stepping up the career ladder takes a long time.

Over my probation period I was given the feedback I did a good job and we were setting goals for the next half year. Out of the blue, they fired me on the last day claiming the performance was bad. I had no chance to speak out. Within 5 minutes I was history. The contact after was disrespectful and the 8 holidays I did not take were simply claimed instead of paid out.

I was hired as design engineer but within 4 months hadn’t touched CAD. I was working on a lot of topics but my expertise and there was no possibility to change that. There are some interesting projects but you need to be lucky for that, other than that simple parts that are complex in its precision but take years to develop
- Eher junge Kollegen in vielen Abteilungen
- Gleitzeit
- Besseres Gehalt
sehr hohe Fluktuation
Welche älteren Kollegen?
alles nur Show
gelegentliche Showveranstaltungen die Motivation steigern sollen
nicht erwähnenswert
Schöner Arbeitsplatz
Gehalt
Mehr Gehalt
Tolle Arbeitsatmosphäre
Hoch angesehenes Unternehmen
Man sollte halt wissen wem man was erzählt…
Super
Oft sehr überfordert
Total toll
So verdient kununu Geld.
