Worst employer I‘ve ever worked for

1,5

Only the office.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Everything else.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

My supervisor made it clear to me on the first day that she was not interested in me. You get the feeling that the rule applies here: Hire to fire. Anyone who doesn't want to gossip with their colleagues or pick on others makes themselves unpopular and has a hard time. Good work and commitment are not valued.

Kommunikation

Onboardings were very few and superficial. You have to teach yourself a lot. Zero transparency regarding management decisions. If you have difficulties, you will not be supported. Superiors do not consult with each other.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Daily gossiping, talking each other down and pointing fingers at others. There is no appreciation. You are always put under pressure, compared to others and belittled by superiors. There are a few nice colleagues who stay in the background and try to act as neutral as possible.

Work-Life-Balance

Less overtime compared to other agencies, but still a very high workload and too many projects at the same time. As a result, quality and the relationship with the customer suffers.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Managing director stays out of everything, a few people try to exert their dominance over others. Responsibilities are not clear which is why they are constantly being challenged by some colleagues.

Interessante Aufgaben

Great, exciting brands/customers, but the daily tasks are very monotonous and repetitive. There is almost no room for further development. Daily meetings without content do not contribute to productivity. Structures and processes without a goal are hardly questioned.

Gleichberechtigung

Between men and women, yes. However, some people consider themselves to be more important than others and express this constantly.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

There are almost no older colleagues.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Only benefit: modern, large office in Berlin Kreuzberg with good public transport connections and Macbooks.

No flexible working hours. Only flexible for doctor’s appointments or child care.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

There is an annual Dept Cares Day where, for example, garbage is collected.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Starting salary just above minimum wage despite relevant professional experience and university degree. The salary increases that were offered in the interview do not take place. There are no benefits except Pizza Fridays and a one-time budget of €100 that you can spend on your own development.

Image

On the outside, the image is good. Once you work there, it looks completely different. Although Dept exists worldwide, you don't really benefit from it as an employee in Germany.

Regular visits to the customer are intended to maintain/build a good relationship, but internally they are often criticized and talked about badly.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

You are being kept as small as possible. There is no further training budget. Seniors are constantly trying to defend their positions. Management has no interest in individual support for employees.

Dear former colleague,

We are sorry to hear that your experience at DEPT® wasn’t what you had hoped for. Yet, we do appreciate that you’re sharing your thoughts.

A few of your feedback points touch up on things that we have been actively working on and made great improvements such as our elaborate onboarding process. We also use numerous formats such as All Hands, Heads/Leads meetings and announcements on slack to keep all employees up-to-date with any business information. However, we have different perspectives on some other aspects you mentioned, such as the perception of a culture promotes gossiping. It is always a priority for DEPT® to lead with kindness and to uplift our team members, whether that means highlighting and celebrating their work and effort or giving supportive feedback. We also implemented formal opportunities to do so via our 360 degree feedback process. If your experience differed from this, it does concern us and we would have wished that you’d brought it up with our People and Culture Team.

In order for all Depsters grow and feel seen, we have just implemented and will continue to expand our leadership training programme. Every leader is conducting regular check-ins in line with our performance and development process to support people's growth but also to support them in their day to day. In addition to this, we also offer a number of benefits including a development budget, psychological support, external vouchers and team events.

As far as salary and benefits are concerned, we understand that this is an important aspect for our employees. The review of our salary structures takes place annually. In this process, we are guided by the salaries typical in comparable industries. It is particularly important to us to ensure that all employees are remunerated fairly and according to their performance within these salary structures. In order to be able to provide additional support to our employees this year, we have also made a conscious decision to pay inflation bonuses. However, we also recognize that, particularly this year, there is a desire to increase salary bands in light of rising inflation. Hence, we are continuously working for improvements and will use your feedback to further refine these aspects.

We recognize that DEPT® is a place with ongoing opportunities for growth and development. While we acknowledge our imperfections, we also believe that it's a place where people can thrive, and we genuinely value and celebrate their outstanding contributions. Even though we disagree on some aspects we do want to reiterate that your feedback is valuable to us, and that we will take your comments into account. If you have any additional insights or suggestions, please feel free to share them with us via business-partner-pc@de.deptagency.com

All the best,
People & Culture at DEPT®
