Learning Fast at enomyc: An Intern’s View of Consulting
Image
enomyc appears to have a strong and professional reputation, particularly within restructuring and management consulting. The way the firm presents itself is also consistent with the way it works internally. It is ambitious, direct, and focused on producing useful results.
As an intern, my external perspective is naturally limited. However, the quality of the team and the seriousness of the projects gave me a positive impression of the firm’s position in the market.
Work-Life-Balance
Most people seem to begin around 8:30 a.m. and finish at approximately 6:00 p.m. For consulting, that appears relatively standard and still leaves room for sport, music, family responsibilities, and life outside work.
At the same time, enomyc does not place an artificial limit on ambition. Someone who wants to continue working late can do so, but it does not appear to be treated as an obligation. I liked that balance. People can manage their private responsibilities while still having the freedom to go further when a project genuinely interests them.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Consulting is one of those careers where you can experience and learn a great deal in a relatively short period. At enomyc, you gain insight into how different firms operate, how they are structured, and how they respond when facing difficult situations such as restructuring.
The team also invests time in explaining the work and providing practical training. For someone at the beginning of their career, that exposure is invaluable.
Gehalt/Benefits
As an intern, I cannot evaluate compensation from personal experience.
Colleagues have told me that the pay at enomyc is quite good. Naturally, the amount varies according to the role, experience, and level of responsibility. What I can reasonably say is that employees are paid clearly above minimum wage. Beyond that, I would be pretending to know more than I do.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
I cannot honestly evaluate the environmental side because I did not have enough insight into the firm’s environmental policies or operations.
The social side was much easier to observe. Respect, equality, and professionalism were visible in everyday interactions, and the firm’s values appeared to be reflected in how people actually behaved. I would rather be honest about what I could observe than invent an opinion about what I could not.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
People are very willing to help each other. Whenever I had a question, someone usually took the time to explain the answer properly rather than simply completing the task for me.
The team also discusses ideas openly and involves younger colleagues in conversations. As an intern, that made it much easier to feel included (even when I was clearly the person with the least consulting experience in the room).
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
There is a high level of respect for the more experienced people at enomyc. That respect does not appear to come from age alone. It comes from the knowledge, judgement, and credibility they have developed over time.
Importantly, the respect also goes both ways. I never witnessed anyone being spoken to poorly or treated dismissively. Interactions between different generations and levels of seniority were consistently professional and positive.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
The supervisors were one of the strongest parts of my internship. Despite being busy, the managers and CEOs remained approachable and usually explained the reasoning behind a task rather than only giving instructions.
I was trusted with meaningful work, encouraged to ask questions, and treated as someone who could contribute. Taking on a young student requires additional time and patience, so I am genuinely appreciative that the leadership was willing to provide the opportunity.
My advice to future interns would be simple. Ask questions and ask for responsibility. At enomyc, initiative is generally met with more opportunities.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Working in the Hamburg office is difficult to fault. Neuer Wall is one of the best locations in the city, with restaurants, shops, and other firms within walking distance.
The office itself is comfortable and properly equipped. There are ergonomic chairs, monitors, and everything needed to work effectively. Employees without an assigned desk choose one on a first come, first served basis. This means you occasionally work in another part of the office (a surprisingly effective way to avoid becoming emotionally attached to one desk).
Gleichberechtigung
Equality seemed natural across the office rather than something performed for appearances. I did not witness a single situation in which someone was disregarded or treated differently because of their gender, race, or background.
Everyone receives a basic level of respect from the beginning. Beyond that, additional trust and recognition are earned through someone’s work, behaviour, and contribution to the firm. That is how a professional environment should operate.
Interessante Aufgaben
Being exposed to real projects as an intern was both unusual and exciting. I was not limited to observing from the side, and the range of work gave me a much better understanding of what consulting actually involves.
I should also be objective. Some of my enthusiasm certainly came from the novelty of the experience. Once that novelty wears off, spending most of a day in Excel can become tiring (Excel eventually wins against everyone).
Still, working on genuine projects and seeing how companies operate made the experience highly valuable.
