Worst working experience I had so far
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
My personal opinion: HR really tries to improve the situation, a lot of flexibility and accommodation in terms of contractual topics and working times, many friendly and open-minded colleagues, interesting, challenging and very relevant topics, open source approach (at least sometimes).
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
My personal opinion:
There are 2 main topics that overshadow all the good that is there, and I'm just realising this now that I'm in a situation where these issues not longer exist:
1) Too many employees do not have the right skills and characteristics (sometimes technical, sometimes social, sometimes both) for their position, and do not manage to acquire them. I found myself in this situation as well. I never had that before or since. Unluckily this spreads from team members (Dev, DevOps, Testing, ...) via team leads and C-Level to managing directors.
This does not apply to all colleagues, there are very capable and friendly colleagues there as well, with whom I really enjoyed to work! Just too many of the others ....
2) Too much toxicity: There is blaming / finger-pointing, silo-thinking and a psychologically unsafe environment (sometimes even hostile). Open, honest and friendly communication as well as cooperative problem solving is unluckily not the default. People talkt behind other peoples backs instead of addressing problems directly and trying to solve them, some people are seriously impolite (bordering on harassment), people refuse to talk to others to discuss obviously present problems, people prefer escalation to cooperation, people feel unsafe and start finger-pointing in defence - a vicious circle. Firing very capable colleagues that do not match managements indirect communication style (just guessing the reason) without prior feedback also does not help.
This mostly not true within the teams, but as soon as it comes to inter-team, inter-department and c-level collaboration I witnessed that a lot. Again this does not at all apply all the time and for all people involved, but one bad apple spoils the whole bunch - and there's more than one.
All in all this situation made me leave, and I am very happy to have done so. I feel much better again at my new workplace.
I know that there are colleagues who are happy to work at Greenbone and who are less affected by the problems described (or do not see them that way). But sill I can't recommend it to anyone in good conscience ...
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Prioritise continuous learning, work on the culture, get rid of the bad apples ...
