I reached the final stage of the interview process on March 5, received a verbal offer, and accepted it. On March 12, I also received and accepted a draft contract. After that, there was extensive email communication, and I was even asked about onboarding details such as laptop preferences and email setup. Everything indicated that I was expected to start in mid April. The email communication came to an end on March 23, and after that I received no further updates. I sent a follow-up email on April 2, but I did not receive any response. Since the process had already progressed so far, I did not think I would simply be ignored or dropped at that stage. Instead, I assumed that the HR person handling my case was on leave or dealing with another issue. Then, on April 9, I was informed by phone that the position had been closed. Cancelling a role at that stage, after an accepted offer, a draft contract, and onboarding-related communication, felt highly unprofessional and disrespectful. During this period, I adjusted my academic plans around this job, cancelled a sailing event I had planned to attend, and informed other employers I had previously applied to that I had accepted another offer and would not be continuing with their processes.
They also told me on the phone that they would send me an official written notice about the closure of the position, but that never happened. Instead, I received a survey asking me to evaluate the recruitment process, which made the whole situation more funny. I had not planned to write a review, but seeing the survey last week made me decide to do so.
Proper, timely communication would have been appreciated.
