I can only agree with many of the previous reviews here. The Chinese corporate culture is very noticeable at HUAWEI and differs significantly from typical European ways of working. As a European employee, you often feel more like an outsider, and in my experience, there are only limited opportunities for personal and professional development.

Many of the internal employees are so-called “experts” who have been brought over from China. As a result, there is sometimes a lack of understanding of the German market and its local requirements. At the same time, there is a lot of pressure to meet KPIs, which puts many employees and managers under considerable stress. I genuinely believe the company would benefit from listening more to its local employees. There is a lot of valuable knowledge and market expertise within the local teams, but their opinions often don’t seem to be taken into account.

I also find the employment structure problematic. Many employees are not directly employed by HUAWEI but ar

I believe HUAWEI has a lot of potential in the German market. However, in my opinion, the company would benefit greatly from listening more closely to its local employees and actually incorporating their experience and feedback into decision-making. Local employees are often excluded from important meetings, and even when they are invited to participate, a significant part of the discussion may still take place in Chinese, making it difficult or even impossible for them to follow the conversation and contribute effectively.

The team spirit within my own team was very good. We supported each other, communicated openly and worked well together. I believe this was also partly due to the fact that a large part of the team consisted of local employees.

Work-Life-BalanceEx-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/in

The work-life balance was, in my experience, rather poor. There is no regular option to work from home and very little flexibility when it comes to working hours. Even when employees are sick, there can be an expectation that they continue working. If they are not able to come into the office, the expectation is sometimes to work from home while being sick instead. This makes it difficult to properly recover and maintain a healthy separation between work and private life.

Unfortunately, I have often witnessed managers shouting at employees or speaking to them in a very rude, harsh or disrespectful manner. I have also experienced situations where managers made comments towards employees that I considered inappropriate and, in some cases, discriminatory. This type of behaviour creates an uncomfortable working environment and, in my opinion, does not reflect respectful or professional leadership.

I generally enjoyed my tasks and found the work particularly interesting at the beginning. However, most of my learning took place during the initial phase. Unfortunately, there is no structured onboarding, so I had to teach myself many of the processes and tasks that were new to me.

Once you have mastered your responsibilities, there are unfortunately very few opportunities as a local employee to develop further, take on new challenges or assume additional responsibilities. In my experience, employees are not sufficiently supported or encouraged to grow, which can make the work increasingly repetitive and eventually rather boring.
