Das ist eine totale Katastrophe!!
Okay, if you want to know, then let’s be honest.
J&T Express somehow managed to bring a particularly toxic version of Chinese working culture into Germany, and honestly, that alone would already be an achievement.
What I found especially freaking fascinating is the inconsistency in expectations. Different people could apparently be held to very different standards when it came to working hours, availability and flexibility. Same company, same workplace, but somehow the rules seemed to change depending on who you were. How freaking convenient.
And the management style? Ewwwww
It is genuinely impressive how much unnecessary chaos can be created through poor communication, disrespect, last-minute decisions, inconsistent expectations and a complete lack of proper planning, and then somehow presented as if employees are the problem for not magically fixing everything.
Apparently, employees are expected to simply absorb the consequences of management decisions, remain permanently flexible and somehow make an unorganized operation function. What a brilliant management strategy.
The communication style was another highlight. Professionalism sometimes seemed to be treated as an optional feature rather than a basic requirement. Emotions, personal attitudes and workplace decisions could become rather difficult to separate, which, I suppose, is one way of keeping things “dynamic.”
And HR?
Another masterpiece.
When employees raise concerns, you would normally expect HR to make things clearer, more professional and, ideally, less stressful. My experience was quite the opposite. If the purpose of HR is to make an already frustrating situation even more frustrating, then congratulations, mission accomplished!
The whole business environment often felt like one giant exercise in “let’s see how much chaos employees can clean up before someone notices.” Dude, everyone is freaking exhausted!
There was a remarkable amount of last-minute planning, unclear communication and unnecessary pressure. And somehow, instead of asking why the system keeps creating these problems, the expectation seemed to be that employees should simply work harder and tolerate more.
And seriously, this is Germany. You cannot just take a management culture from somewhere else, put it into a German workplace and expect employees to quietly adapt to everything that comes with it. Germany has its own labour standards, working-time expectations and workplace culture. Maybe adapting to the country you operate in should be part of the expansion strategy. Just a thought.
Overall, the experience was extraordinarily disrespectful and, frankly, quite unforgettable.
But hey, thank you, J&T Express.
Your whole thing really broadened my horizon.
I now know exactly what a workplace should NOT look like.
So perhaps the next step is simple: before expanding further, maybe learn a little more about the workplace culture, expectations and basic professional standards of the country you are operating in.
Because apparently, opening an office in Germany is easier than understanding how Germany works.
