Keep your hiring process as it is. Netlight consistently manages to attract excellent people who are often still early in their careers and may not yet fully recognize their own capabilities. This is clearly one of the company’s strengths.

The way Netlight places trust in junior talent and gives them a strong initial vote of confidence is highly effective. I would encourage the company to continue this approach, as it creates a strong foundation for growth.

Netlight is very good at developing young professionals into employees who take ownership, think independently, and actively drive their work forward. This focus on early responsibility is one of the most impactful aspects of the organization.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

There is often a very polished and highly curated atmosphere at Netlight. From the outside, events such as parties or summits can appear similar to influencer-style gatherings, where everything looks extremely positive and energetic. In my experience, this public impression does not always fully reflect the day-to-day reality, which can feel more ordinary and less performative.

The general interaction between colleagues is consistently friendly and professional. At the same time, the culture can feel somewhat surface-level, where relationships remain cordial but not necessarily deeply personal in a work context.

I also had the impression that netlight specifically hires young peoples right after uni. mostly these generations of hires at roughly the same time form a friends group. especially if they specifically move to the city for netlight. a circle of friends solely formed by netlighters means topic of conversations are often work and netlight in general. I still meet former colleagues of netlight and conversation are mostly about netlight. it's really crazy to see and looking back, I feel that some of these dynamics only become fully visible once you leave the company and gain distance from it.

I’ve found that people genuinely want to do a great job and are highly ambitious. To make that happen, good and transparent communication is key. Everyone is super friendly, and there’s always a warm welcome and a nice chat waiting for you as soon as you walk through the door.

Netlight clearly has a strong sense of its own identity and positions itself as a high-performing and highly attractive employer. In my experience, people tend to be fairly reserved about openly criticizing the company in official settings or within work-related environments.

At the same time, in more informal and private conversations among colleagues, a more critical perspective does emerge. Some aspects of the company are discussed quite openly and critically once people feel in a safe environment to do so.

From my point of view even successful consultants know of the many challenges withing the company, yet never or rarely act on it, as "they had to go through the same rough path" or are just opportunistic

Work-Life-Balance

Work–life balance is an interesting topic at Netlight. Officially, the company emphasizes that it does everything possible to support a healthy work–life balance and even takes pride in it. You'll often hear statements such as, “Consultants only work a 40-hour week for the client” or “All afternoon meetings are optional—you don’t have to attend.”

However, the longer you stay, the more you realize that if you want to progress and advance your career, participation is expected. You need to be visible. That means attending Netlight’s afternoon meetings, starting and leading focus groups, giving presentations, and contributing to internal initiatives. Whether these activities always create meaningful value is debatable; what matters most is the visibility they provide for the individual. In practice, much of this happens outside of—and in addition to—the advertised 40-hour work week. This can end up in a 80-hour week, if you want that.

Netlight is a great fit for people who are highly ambitious and have relatively few major commitments outside of work.

Netlight follows a strong “train-first” policy. At the same time, it is fair to say that this also contributes to the company’s external image, as Netlight places a lot of focus on being perceived as one of the leading consultancies in this regard.

I have to give Netlight a lot of credit in this area.

When you join straight out of university, Netlight places a remarkable amount of trust in you from day one. You are given plenty of opportunities to learn, take ownership, and grow. Colleagues are generally very approachable and willing to share their knowledge and help you develop your skills.

My first years at Netlight were extremely valuable. I learned a tremendous amount, both technically and professionally. Looking back, I would not be where I am today without that experience. The environment pushed me to grow quickly, and for that I am genuinely grateful.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

I feel like my perspective on this has shifted over the years. In the beginning, I probably would have given this a 4-star rating. Over time, however, you start to notice that certain things are left unsaid. Issues are discussed behind your back and then communicated to you in a very vague, 'fuzzy' way—yet always with the reminder of how transparent the company supposedly is. To me, that is the exact opposite of being honest and direct. Ultimately, the superficiality is what I would criticize most about Netlight.

Here as well, there is a noticeable gap between Netlight's image and the actual day-to-day reality. Officially, the company promotes flat hierarchies. Every Netlighter is assigned a mentor, and the idea is that mentor and mentee work together on the mentee's career growth and development. The feedback culture is emphasized heavily, and promotion decisions are largely based on the feedback collected over time.

However, since every Netlighter above a certain level is expected to become a mentor, the quality of these mentor-mentee relationships varies significantly. Some people simply are not good mentors, yet they are required to take on the role regardless. Netlight provides mandatory mentor training, but for some individuals this does little to improve the situation. As a result, you need a bit of luck to end up with a mentor who communicates clearly, directly, and provides actionable feedback. Quite often, however, you may find yourself with a mentor who can only offer vague and fuzzy development points that are difficult to act upon.

You generally have access to the latest hardware and software, and the equipment provided is of a very high standard. In this regard, Netlight does an excellent job and invests in ensuring that consultants have modern, high-quality tools to work with.

Kommunikation

Generally speaking, communication is one of Netlight’s biggest assets. There is a lot of dialogue on every possible topic, and employees regularly start focus and interest groups on their own initiative. The reason for my one-star deduction is that information reflecting poorly on the company tends to be swept under the rug. This highlights my biggest critique: maintaining a flawless image, both internally and externally, always comes first at netlight.

Gehalt/Benefits

Netlight pays very competitively and does a good job of regularly adjusting salaries based on both inflation and the company's performance. Compensation was one of the areas where I felt the company consistently delivered on its promises.

The benefits package is also strong. There is meaningful support for employees with families, including contributions towards childcare costs and additional support related to pregnancy and parental leave.

That said, the overall culture tends to be geared towards highly ambitious and career-driven individuals. Many of the benefits are designed to help employees return to work quickly and continue progressing in their careers. For some people, this is a major advantage.

Overall, this aspect was fairly positive. There were many interesting projects and opportunities to work on meaningful challenges.

However, Netlight often promotes the idea that they can find the perfect project for every consultant based on their interests, skills, and career goals. In my experience, this is simply not true. While some consultants end up on projects that suit them very well, many others do not.

I knew several colleagues who were frustrated with their project assignments and felt that their work did not align with what they wanted to do or where they wanted to develop professionally. Ultimately, project staffing is constrained by client demand, which means that not everyone can be matched with an ideal assignment. I think Netlight would benefit from being more transparent about this reality.

Netlight puts a lot of effort in a healthy work life balance. Supporting coffee chats with others and adhering to the 40h week.
Making overtime to address your clients needs might however be encouraged at times. However, you are encouraged to balance this out on your own.

You are in charge of your career and there are so many people you can ask for advice and you will find support for every topic (also non-work related). The network is incredible and it spans not only your local office but the whole company. For a question you can either send a DM or look for initiatives/groups which there is a ton of. The shared technical expertise is outstanding in my opinion and supports you in the best possible way to shape your career and deliver great solutions.

The work environment is the best I've ever experienced. Colleagues are genuinely helpful, open and appreciative. Constructive feedback aiming to actually help people grow is among Netlight's core values. You are in charge of your own development but there is a ton of support if you want it.

Work-Life-Balance

Unlike other consulting firms, Netlight places a lot of importance on a healthy work-life balance, in my opinion. It's not necessary to work more than 40 hours per week, there's a lot of extra support for young families, and there's a community within the company for many hobbies and interests. Of course, your responsibilities increase with seniority (e.g. by becoming a mentor)

Ein großes Defizit an Transparenz: Die Firma basiert nicht auf Leistung, sondern darauf, wer sich besser bei den richtigen Personen einschmeichelt. Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen spielen dabei kaum eine Rolle.

Dies führt gelegentlich dazu, dass Mitarbeiter, die gerade erst ihre Karriere begonnen haben, sich fälschlicherweise als erfahren genug sehen, um Führungspositionen einzunehmen – was jedoch keineswegs der Realität entspricht.

Ein Mangel an Transparenz und direkter Kommunikation in der Führung schafft Misstrauen und Unsicherheit innerhalb des Teams. Ohne klare, offene Informationen und ehrlichen Austausch fehlen die Grundlagen für effektive Zusammenarbeit, Engagement und langfristigen Erfolg.

Die Firma vermittelt den Eindruck von Vielfalt, doch in Wirklichkeit beschränkt sich diese hauptsächlich auf die Gleichstellung von Männern und Frauen. Abgesehen davon handelt es sich um ein überwiegend weißes Unternehmen, das von Schweden geführt wird – und das wird sich voraussichtlich auch nicht ändern.

Interessante Aufgaben

Die Auswahl der Aufgaben liegt nicht bei einem selbst, sondern wird vom Vertrieb getroffen. Gerät man an einen schwierigen Kunden, kann dies die Arbeit erheblich erschweren. Auch wenn kommuniziert wird, dass ein Wechsel des Kunden möglich sei, hat dies oft negative Auswirkungen auf die persönliche Karriereentwicklung.

Es tut uns leid zu lesen, dass du dir in deiner Zeit mehr Transparenz gewünscht hättest. Dabei hat die Kundenarbeit für uns immer höchste Priorität. Ab einem gewissen Senioritätslevel wird aber natürlich auch erwartet, Interesse & Engagement bei der Weiterentwicklung des Unternehmens zu zeigen, bspw. im Talent Management durch Coaching und Mentoring neuer Kolleg:innen oder im Business Development durch Kollaboration mit unseren Sales Teams.

Schade auch, dass du das Gefühl hast, dass wir kein kulturell diverses Unternehmen seien. Allein in Berlin beschäftigen wir aktuell über 100 Mitarbeiter:innen mit Wurzeln in über 20 unterschiedlichen Ländern, worauf wir sehr stolz sind – auch wenn wir wissen, dass wir noch einiges lernen und verbessern können.

You are in charge of your own career. I would even say you will become better at life in general while working there. But keep in mind, that you will have to put in the effort to achieve it. Responsibility from day one. Office culture and vibe of people (+ events) are out of this world. Really!

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

If you are looking for a nine to five job, working on your own: Netlight is not for you. With this expectation you will find a lot to complain. If you are up for a great consultancy where you can thrive and willing to do so - there is not a lot to improve rather than adapt to the market which is part of everyday business.
