Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

There’s a decent variety of tasks to work on, and for a while, home office was an option. Teamwork was generally positive, and the technical quality was strong during my time there. The company’s heavy use of AI inspired me to write this entire review with ChatGPT—matching the same tone you can expect from the workplace!

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The salary and negotiation process leave much to be desired. Leadership, in my experience, undermined many of the positive aspects the company once had. The emerging culture feels dictated by the CEO’s preferences rather than the team’s. Core values like transparency seem one-sided, with limited openness from management. Team events reflect only the CEO’s tastes, and the overall atmosphere can feel heavy and factory-like. There’s a pervasive sense of mistrust and constant vigilance toward employees, accompanied by passive-aggressive remarks about those who leave. The approach to HR feels distant, with an unwelcoming attitude toward employees, remember "HR is NOT your friend". Many of the critical reviews reflect genuine issues, even if expressed bluntly. Ultimately, what once had great potential has become an empty husk, as everyone who can, leaves, in every single department. HR constantly trying to sniff out who is happy or not to find replacements.

This page is intentionally left blank.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The overall atmosphere feels tense and unmotivated, which can make the workday feel more draining than usual. It’s evident that morale is low among the team, which affects the general energy in the workplace.

Image

There’s little about working here that inspires pride, but it’s not a company engaged in anything fundamentally unethical except from management's actions. It’s a fairly typical workplace that has its mix of positive and negative aspects.

Work-Life-Balance

While overtime may not be explicitly required, there’s an unspoken expectation to go above and beyond regular hours. The culture tends to reward visibility and perceived dedication—such as staying late—over actual results. Emulating the CEO's work style is often seen as the standard, and maintaining boundaries between work and personal life can be challenging.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

Opportunities for career growth and professional development are virtually nonexistent. If you hope for advancement, be prepared to engage directly with the CEO and to be there overtime in the office or align closely with their overwork style. Even strong performance is unlikely to be met with proactive support for your development. Additionally, towards the end of one’s tenure, employees may be assigned tasks outside their usual responsibilities, which can feel discouraging.

Gehalt/Benefits

Compensation at the company was below expectations and was a significant factor in my decision to leave. While the company offers 24 days of holiday, it’s worth noting that this is fewer than what many other employers provide. Additionally, long-term employees who have remained loyal and committed do not appear to be adequately rewarded for their dedication.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

While leadership publicly expresses support for environmental and social causes, the actions behind those statements often feel superficial. Genuine commitment appears lacking, especially following the departure of team members who were truly passionate about these issues. On a positive note, the company does offer charitable donations to an organization of the employee's choice.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Team members within the same groups were generally friendly and supportive, though collaboration between different teams was limited. Colleagues were helpful during my time there, but it's difficult to say what the dynamic might be now, as many of the core team members have left or are in the process of leaving. A glance at the team photo in the entrance may give some perspective on current retention.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

I didn’t have enough interaction with older colleagues to form a clear opinion on this aspect.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Leadership has been a major factor in employee turnover. Rather than fostering collaboration, decision-making tends to be top-down with little room for input. Feedback from developers, designers, and even customers is often overlooked. Additionally, there’s a pattern of passive-aggressive commentary about former employees, which contributes to a lack of trust and transparency.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The working environment can be physically and mentally draining. The office space is not particularly well-maintained, and there are limited options for rest or quiet breaks—taking time to pause is often discouraged. While standing desks and some home office days are available, remote work is generally not supported by leadership. The open office layout also means it will get quite noisy.

Kommunikation

Communication tends to be one-sided. Leadership expects full transparency from employees but is unreceptive to feedback or criticism. Dissenting opinions are often unwelcome, creating an environment where conformity is expected. To avoid conflict, many feel pressured to maintain a façade of agreement and positivity.

Gleichberechtigung

At the time, the team included individuals from diverse backgrounds

Interessante Aufgaben

As with many companies, there’s a wide range of tasks and areas to work on, offering some variety. However, individual choice in assignments is limited, and you may find yourself working on topics—such as mobility and bookings—that may or may not align with your interests. The workload includes both routine and more challenging tasks.

Arbeitgeber-Kommentar

fleetster

Dear former employee,

We believe this statement reflects personal frustration more than structural truth, especially in regard to our CEO.
We do not engage in personal attacks, but we want to set the record straight.

Decision-making & Leadership
fleetster is a small tech company operating in a highly competitive SaaS market. Decisions sometimes need to be made quickly and with focus. That is not unusual in scale-ups. At the same time, we have multiple structured formats where feedback and input are explicitly encouraged:
- Regular team retrospectives
- Regular 1:1 meetings
- Weekly feedback cycles with 15Five
- Open roadmap discussions in planning sessions
We are aware that this level of transparency and proximity to leadership can feel unfamiliar to some. Still, saying that "feedback is ignored" is factually incorrect.

Working hours & flexibility
Office policies (on-site, hybrid, or remote) depend on the role:
- Product Team: 3 days per week in the office (Monday, Thursday, Friday for sprint planning, retrospectives, and workshops), 2 days wherever you feel most productive
- Sales Team: 3 days per week in the office (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), 2 days remote or wherever most productive
- Full-time work is 40 hours per week, with most of the team working between 9:00 and 18:00 including a 1-hour (lunch-)break.
- Breaks can be taken flexibly, except in customer-facing roles (e.g., support) where longer breaks like lunch are scheduled collaboratively within the team.
- Overtime is not expected and not part of our culture. No one is required to be available outside working hours, certainly not to the extent of the CEO.

These expectations are clearly communicated during hiring and onboarding. If someone cannot or does not want to work within these parameters, we respect that decision. These are standard requirements for a SaaS team that values collaboration and customer responsiveness.

Office environment
Yes, the current office is full. That’s what happens when you grow. The move to a larger space has been planned and communicated for months. Until then: clean, central, functional.

HR and employee support
HR at fleetster is not a disciplinary function. We take employee dissatisfaction seriously and provide multiple touchpoints to improve situations. At the same time, we accept that sometimes collaboration does not work out, and people decide to move on. Replacing roles when employees leave is a normal part of running a company.

Learning & development
We offer multiple growth opportunities:
- 1:1 coaching from certified professionals (Lotaro)
- Paid language courses (Udemy)
- Optional learning budgets depending on role and seniority
That said, growth at a scale-up requires initiative. Waiting for predefined promotion paths is not aligned with our operating reality.

Compensation & benefits
- 24 paid vacation days plus unlimited unpaid vacation
- Transparent salary ranges published for every job in the job description
- We are CO2-neutral and donate annually to environmental or social causes on behalf of each employee (€250 per person, choice of cause)
- Wellpass or Deutschlandticket after probation period

In summary:
We are proud of the team, product and impact we have built, and we know that scaleups are not for everyone. If the culture and pace did not fit, we understand. However, we stand by our values of transparency, ownership, integrity and collaboration, and we invite anyone genuinely curious about our company to speak with current team members directly.

We wish you all the best for your professional future.
