My worst experience ever: no perspective for carreer develpment, excessive micromanagement.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Hartmann as a company was good. The legal team, compliance, and product marketing are full of wonderful colleagues. I've heard they also have good management. However, in the department I worked in, I didn’t have a single positive experience.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The atmosphere is deeply unhealthy. So much bullying. He mentioned my salary in every single meeting I have had with that guy. He often talks about how we will go to jail if Hartman loses the market for product X. He used all kinds of scare tactics. Others have left for similar reasons, and I sincerely hope that top management will eventually recognize the damage being done and take appropriate action. However, a former colleague informed me that the guy has two other one-step upper-level managers. So, reporting the behavior to the work council and HR was pointless.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

I’ve worked for over 20 years, and my time at Hartmann was by far the worst professional experience of my life. One mid-level manager created a toxic environment through extreme micromanagement and an obsessive need for extreme degree of control with no goal other than scaring fellow colleagues. Within just three weeks, I began searching for a new job. There were red flags from the very beginning, but I hoped things might improve and tried to endure for a few more months. Unfortunately, the situation only worsened and became truly unbearable.
I'm grateful I left before it affected my mental health even further. The company as a whole has many wonderful people—particularly in the legal, compliance, and product marketing teams—and I've heard that other departments are much more supportive and family-friendly. But in this one particular department, the atmosphere is deeply unhealthy. Others have left for similar reasons, and I sincerely hope that top management will eventually recognize the damage being done and take appropriate action.
He orders consultancy contracts with senior professors and pays them a substantial amount of money. But he complains they don't contribute much. Then why does he make the company waste a lot of money if he already knows that they don't contribute?

Interessante Aufgaben

Not exciting. Tries to support their product with evidence, but much of their evidence is superficial. No concrete vision on how the products will be supported by evidence. The manager simply picks things here and there (usually from tweets or LinkedIn posts) and comes to brag as if he knows everything. What is funny is the guy thinks he expert on everything.

Gehalt/Benefits

Kind ok but tbh I prefer to earn less in peace and a more motivating environment. Plus, what is the point of mentioning my salary in every meeting?

Image

I should have checked before I joined this company, and I hope everyone else would check that before stepping into this company, especially that department.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

No perspective. The manager denied my participation in a minor but beneficial training that we had agreed on a week after he told me to book it, and the company will refund me.
