The worst startup in Berlin
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Moving fast but to a fault
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
I worked at Reonic as a fullstack engineer and have never experienced a more toxic and dysfunctional workplace.
During my time there, I was repeatedly yelled at and gaslit by the CTO — most often when disagreeing on how to implement a process or technical feature. These disagreements are completely normal in any tech company and are usually resolved through discussion. At Reonic they instead escalate to dominance behavior: name calling, gaslighting, and intimidation.
The engineering department is rigidly hierarchical, with the CTO at the top and an inner circle of founding engineers below him who never question his decisions. As an outsider to this structure, you are expected to submit rather than contribute. Suggestions are not welcomed; pushback is not tolerated.
What makes this particularly damaging is that neither the CTO nor his inner circle have meaningful experience outside this company. Rather than treating that as a reason to listen to more experienced hires, they treat disagreement as a threat. During my time at Reonic, four senior engineers were fired or pushed out for this reason alone.
If you are not desperate for work, do not take a position here. Berlin has better options.
