Golden Cage
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Competitive salaries, generally interesting work, and many highly skilled colleagues. Collaboration works well in most teams, and new joiners are usually welcomed and motivated.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Decisions are often made top-down, with limited real impact from employee feedback
Return-to-office feels misaligned with how people actually work and with the company’s “modern” image
Cost cutting and headcount reductions conflict with increasing workload, scope creep, and tighter deadlines
Knowledge loss due to externals leaving without proper handover is underestimated
Salary and career development lack transparency and fairness for long-term employees
Development opportunities involve too many approvals and hurdles
Leadership quality is inconsistent, and poor leadership has a strong negative impact on culture and trust
Open-space offices can be overcrowded and distracting since RTO
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Listen to employees consistently and let feedback actually influence decisions.
Align workload, staffing, and priorities realistically — cutting costs and headcount while increasing pressure is not sustainable, especially in IT where knowledge loss matters.
Improve transparency and fairness around compensation and career development, and reduce unnecessary approval hurdles.
Address leadership quality more actively, as poor leadership has a strong negative impact on trust and motivation.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
The team itself is good, but the overall environment can feel unhealthy at times. There’s quite a bit of gossip and judgment, sometimes without really knowing the full picture, and it doesn’t always stop at peer level. When leadership is part of that, it makes the atmosphere uncomfortable and hurts trust.
Image
I feel like the company’s image was better in the past. Some issues tend to be overlooked because the pay is good, though. At the same time, new joiners generally seem happy and motivated, which is a positive sign.
Work-Life-Balance
I’d like to give more stars, but I can’t — mainly for two reasons.
First, the return-to-office policy. The company presents itself as modern and employee-friendly, but in practice employee input often feels welcome only when it’s convenient. Many decisions still come across as top-down.
Second, cost cutting. Reducing infrastructure and externals without replacing internal staff, while at the same time expanding scope, tightening deadlines, and adding new priorities, simply doesn’t add up. The recent announcement to reduce IT headcount only reinforces this concern.
In short: fewer people, less budget, more work, more pressure, and a push back to the office. (Which is "not monitored"....)
Karriere/Weiterbildung
There are mandatory trainings several times a year, and additional development options do exist. In practice, though, they come with many hurdles — time, budget, manager approval, and alignment with targets. This makes it harder to actively invest in personal development, and opportunities can sometimes feel unevenly distributed.
Gehalt/Benefits
Salaries are generally above average, but at some point that matters less. It becomes frustrating when long-term employees see new hires with significantly less experience or responsibility earning the same or more. Even if those cases are exceptions, they raise questions about fairness and long-term incentives.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
RWE is clearly making an effort. It’s an energy company, so sustainability is a complex topic, but there are visible initiatives around social engagement and becoming greener. There’s still room to improve, but overall the direction feels genuine.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
I’ve worked in several teams over the years. Most of the time it’s been neutral and professional — sometimes you go to lunch together, and occasionally even spend time together after work. I’ve never seen anything concerning in how colleagues treat each other; everyone is pretty much in the same boat.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
From what I’ve seen and experienced, older employees are generally valued for their experience and insights.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
I’ve seen the full range — from very good leadership to situations that probably should have been escalated to the workers council. At the moment, it feels fair and mostly average.
Arbeitsbedingungen
It’s okay overall, but there’s room for improvement. Some meeting rooms have loose cables or flickering lights. Most of the time everything works fine, but the open-space setup can feel quite busy, almost like a call center. Since the return to office, space can get tight, and it’s not always easy to find a seat with your team.
Kommunikation
It really depends on the TL/ITL. There are some excellent leaders, and unfortunately some very poor ones as well. Overall, communication is okay, but for a company that presents itself as modern, employee feedback should be taken seriously and consistently — not only when it’s convenient.
Gleichberechtigung
From my position, it’s hard to properly judge gender or racial equality. I can only speak for myself and say that I treat everyone equally.
I’ve given three stars mainly because I sometimes question whether all roles are filled based on qualification alone. Compensation also doesn’t always feel aligned, and long-term loyalty to the company doesn’t necessarily seem to benefit employees.
Interessante Aufgaben
The tasks are quite varied and often align well with my skill set. However, a significant amount of time goes into maintaining legacy systems, sometimes without proper knowledge transfer after externals have left. In practice, this makes the work less interesting than it could be, especially alongside changing priorities, tight deadlines, and ongoing support responsibilities.
