Honestly, it has set my expectations pretty high for future employers.
The atmosphere is open and supportive, while still leaving room for self-improvement. The 360° surveys encourage honest feedback and reflection, and they help keep the culture collaborative instead of political or overly corporate-y.
The company has a positive and authentic image and communicates transparently about obstacles and strategy, without exaggerating just to improve perception.
Work-life balance is genuinely supported: taking breaks and looking after your health is encouraged (meditation/stretching sessions), the schedule is flexible around my studies, and I’m clearly told to prioritise my studies first when necessary.
From the beginning, I clearly communicated my career goals and was given guidance and mentoring on how to achieve them. My mentor/team lead checked in with me weekly to see where I was struggling and helped me learn how to overcome challenges. I was also provided with a learning and development budget to keep my skills up to date. self improvement is very encouraged.
For a student role, the salary is fair and appropriate. Combined with the learning opportunities and flexibility, it feels reasonable, but it's only human to want more ngl
I don’t have much visibility into this yet. Maybe a bit more communication around it would be nice.
Solid team spirit! as a student i felt included and taken seriously since day one. Everyone i got the chance to work with so far was supportive, approachable, and always willing to help or explain things without
judgement.
Communication across different generations works smoothly, and I haven’t noticed any misunderstandings.
There is very little sense of "superior vs. inferior". Leadership is approachable and humble, listens carefully, and takes the time to answer questions or discuss feedback. ♀️
I’m provided with everything I need to do my job properly, and the working conditions support focused and efficient work from the comfort of my home office. As i am working remotely.
Communication is always transparent and friendly across the team and with leadership, without typical unnecessary hierarchy or chains of commands. At how.fm we are genuinely encouraged to share our feedback regularly, ask questions, and different perspectives are well welcomed. Decisions and priorities come with context, which keeps expectations clear. The lesser star is mine as i still see space to improve my communication.
People are valued for their work and contributions, not their gender or background. AS THEY SHOULD ✨
The tasks are interesting overall, though my role can depend on development timelines. During waiting phases, more structured tasks could make the work even more engaging.
very flexible working hours! working students are encouraged to prioritise their studies and employees are met with understanding if they have to take time off for childcare, to look after their mental health or whatever other reason
how.fm is very open to innovation and simply letting you try things out, which allowed me to take on a great deal of responsibility even in quite a junior role. because of this, I feel like I'm gaining much more experience and more skills than I would in any other student job. there's also some great workshops we get to take part in and that have been very useful to me!
there's a lot of support amongst colleagues and it's common practice to ask for help amongst the team if things are getting stressful. we have lots of fun team events to make us feel more connected too!
our team is currently very young, but I do feel like we would all welcome older colleagues just as much as anyone else!
very flat hierarchies: leaders are really approachable and value the insights of a working student just as much as those of a senior employee
we have very open communication at how.fm and leaders make an effort to keep everyone in the loop about what's happening in the company. the thing i love most about my job is the way i don't really feel like i have to filter or censor myself at all, as can often be the case in a professional context. we have a very informal way of communicating with each other and questions are always welcome!
tasks can be quite varied and the company is great at supporting you grow in the direction you want to grow in!
