great culture, amazing products, so many perks, but a lot of incompetent managers at all levels.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

lots of exposure, actively participate in trade shows many perks such as free drinks, etc company has at various levels very nice people.
Some new faces are emerging, at senior level which is very positive given the old ones let them stay and deliver.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

a VP of a very important department, without any prior work experience of that dept,is on the VP position just because of friendships. Now in the department is obviously chaos. BUT the people their are not allowed to speak about it, if they do, they are at risk of losing their job.
sorry but this is not how you run an international company.
and such incompetent managers making experiments at various levels you will find in half the company. no doubt the other half are extremely capable and competent.

stop rewarding friendships, start rewarding merit.
before you promote someone , gather feedback from every single team mate, not from a chosen few. That way you make a decision with complete transparency. and same should apply for yearly reviews of managers.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

can be different for different teams/departments but in SD, where I was if one word explains it all it would be 'Toxic' .
If you are a hardworker - your colleagues would leave no effort in vain to block you and diminish your efforts. Politics, forming groups, back biting were the norms. Those who refused to do this were seen as aliens. Managers would turn a blind eye to ensure friendships were not at risk.

Kommunikation

in our team I proposed a daily 5 min rap up, of what everyone was doing, team members turned it down, as they felt coming under a radar. Meeting was then set to once a week, where mostly issues were discussed which were a total waste of time. Everyone was trying to hide what they were up to. Some were taking advantage of it, the manager just turned a blind eye to it as he had to ensure friendships were not damaged.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

on the face very friendly, but almost everyone was backbiting, trying their best to ruin others image. Forming groups, deliberately isolating the ones they didn't like. which is totally non-professional, non-acceptable in a company that claims to be a leader.
All the time I was there, my colleagues would tell me stories of how awful and chaotic everything was, and that every second new joiner quits in months. :|
this was already very shocking for me, further to my surprise, one of those got promoted later.

Work-Life-Balance

at least no mirco-management, you had the freedom to manage. One could be in the office, or work from home. Work during the day or work in the evening/weekend.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

after joining the company, the first thing that shocked me was when my own manager asked me to refuse to comply with Product Management because he had his grudges with them. Imagine what i was going through.
This is indicative of incompetent/inexperienced manager. Which you will find in at least half the senior management and this happens when you reward friendships and ignore merit.
In a similar way, a non-deserving team member was promoted as manager out of mere friendship, later some 4-5 people quit under him, either moved or left company. Instead of calling an inquiry, new people were hired and the manager was promoted further. In the long-run this is extremely detrimental for the company, where talent is leaving the company and incompetent friends are becoming top managers.
being a nice person is one thing, but having the right people-skills is another. Similarly, you could be a top performer, in a team but you will bring chaos to your team, if you are promoted as a manager without
the right experience, the required people-skills.
On the other hand, I also met some very capable managers, having the right experience and skill-set to lead.

Interessante Aufgaben

in our line of work, every 2nd year there was a huge shift in focus. Tasks were interesting, but just when I started to enjoy, the focus would switch leaving me with uncertainty.
