Good start for career, not great for experienced employees.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

International teams, all fancy benefits (drinks, tables, chairs, meeting rooms etc.), freedom (maybe a bit too much even).

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Salary, appreciation, structure, management, professionalism

Verbesserungsvorschläge

First, refresh most of people on managing positions.
Then, consider about investing into a professional consulting company to "clean up" your processes and management.

Last but not least, most important: look around, make sure to keep and appreciate older employees who are still motivated to contribute, but horribly underpaid.

You are loosing wrong people. You let them leave and you keep the ones who are "way too comfortable there" or just good self-promoters.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

+:
- International team, mostly friendly and young people.
Downsides:
- With tight/personal relationships between colleagues comes too much drama and unprofessional approach to problem solving
- Humiliating, talking behind your back, blame game still happens and is being ignored by management

Kommunikation

With the company growth communication got lost. No one knows what's going on, what changes happen and why.
MDs usually give unclear answers to straight forward questions.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

If you are young and expat in Dusseldorf, great. You won't be alone.

If you like your privacy though and you have your life other than Trivago, then you will not feel comfortable with too much pressure to socialise with your colleagues after work and on weekends.

Work-Life-Balance

You can literally do nothing for 1 week, take "home office" and "sick days" and no one will notice.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Who can make a self-advertisement well and become a friend with CEO or MD, will be most probably promoted to a higher hierarchical position and take over a big team.
As a result most (not all of them) of team leads are unprofessional, have no idea what people in their teams are doing, but great talkers.

Interessante Aufgaben

If you switch your position and start something new, first 6 months you are busy with learning and it's exciting. However after you pass that moment (or especially if you entry as experienced employee), you will get bored quite fast.

In my experience most of tasks were about putting together old pieces of poorly written code and make sure old stuff is not broken.

Gleichberechtigung

Comparing to other companies whoever you are, you can be yourself and usually won't be judged for that.
In IT environment depending on who you work with, if you are a woman you might feel underestimated, but that has also improved over last couple of years.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

i knew only one older colleague (somewhat 40+) and she was treated the same as the others.

Arbeitsbedingungen

When it comes to fancy buildings, meeting rooms, tables, chairs and computers, Trivago did a good job there

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

new campus is environment friendly. Also they finally started recycling.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

My advice to you: If you just graduated or you are a student, you will be happy with your salary, go for it.
If you are experienced though, don't expect much. The market especially in Dusseldorf has much higher standards.
Trivago is quite open about their policy "if you don't like your salary, you should leave. Because we don't want to keep people here who are driven by money".

Image

I believe building an image is one of the biggest Trivago's accomplishments.
I would still like to mention, that it is only an image. The reality is quite different.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

If you are motivated and you wanna learn new things, Trivago is open to provide you the opportunity to switch departments.
However if you want to become a pro in what you are doing, probably you should do it somewhere else.
