As an employee it is a total disaseter. I have been working in various institutes and environments, but Uni Hamburg is by far the most disappointing.
The most disappointing is total lack of trust in employees and overwhelming administration and its complexity. Just few examples:
- you can't print documents larger than 10 MB, which in the end effect just makes your life really annoying if you want to print something with high res images. We have a really expensive printer, but no-one is using it for this reason.
- access to our offices is via transponders, which randomly open offices to which I shouldn't have access to, and at the same time, at least once in a month stop working completely
- they moved us to a building which was undergoing renovation. I don't mind dirt, but I really mind drilling all day long!
- turning off heating in winter is not a best strategy how to make your researchers conducting top-tier research
- management of computers is like 20 years ago: you get a computer, but due to security reasons, you can't install anything on them, so in the end, in our team, they ordered 20 computers and I was the only one who was capable of using it by installing my own operating system in it.
All together, Uni Hamburg was by far the worst institution I ever worked for and I hope I will never have to go through the same again. I even said to myself that I would be very cautious about collaborating with Uni in the future

Oh, that's the only thing that uni cares about, but maybe it is time to care about your employees, who are persecuted majority.
