Ex-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat bis 2016 bei Wayfair GmbH in Berlin gearbeitet.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

-Nice colleagues
-international atmosphere
-meet other cultures and improve english
-good start into internet business
-good situated in Kreuzberg with a lot of possibilities to eat etc.
-snacks/ fruits / coffee
-team events

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

-constant pressure and surveillance / tracking of goals
-in some teams you will have to grade your colleagues like in school
-half-yearly review cycle where you get feedback from manager and colleagues can be helpful but also hard to digest since not all opinions will be objective.
-american approach on everything that does not work in germany
-hire and fire mentality, often lead to mass firings of whole teams
-office is stylish but not good for working focussed, a lot of construction work around, noisy
-lower floor of office has sweat shop atmosphere, 100 people sitting in rows of computers
-payment below average
-overhours (depends on team)
- sometimes not the best choices for managers (lack of social skills)

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Please!!! orientate more on how companies in germany treat their employees, offer more flexible working hours, pay better, value your employees, their skills and experience but also their feelings

Arbeitsatmosphäre

In general, Wayfair tries to offer you a good working atmosphere, but soon you will feel a constant pressure and fear to be fired. 90% of the people in the picture do not work there anymore and that probably says a lot about a company. Everything is changing very fast and you have to keep the pace. Hire and fire.

Kommunikation

A LOT of emails, but only 1% is relevant for you. Communication within the teams work very well (for my team) since we had weekly meetings, one on ones with the manager and brainstormings. It's hard to find out on what other teams are doing.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Colleges are the best. In all these 350+ people you will definitely find some soulmates that help you to survive there and to spend lunchtimes with.
I will keep some friends for live from my work at wayfair.

Work-Life-Balance

I always left in time, but I know a lot of people worked many many overhours without proper compensation. People doing long overhours sometimes get rewarded in the internal system, I think this is a wrong approach, german workers are not like american workers and should not be encouraged to work longer for free.
They do not offer flexible working hours (like a 30h contract unless you are a working student).
wayfair offers a health week, team events and yoga which is a good approach, but - in my opinion - only tries to make up for all the bad things you experience there. Alcohol is often used for socializing and parties sometimes end late at night (or early morning) since many of the employees enjoy partying together - may that be good or bad.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

It really depends on your manager if you enjoy work or not. I had a good one and a really really bad one I still fear and who made me feel very bad. Manager will push you if you dont bring the results they want, if you have a good one they will help you to achieve your goals.

Interessante Aufgaben

Depends on you position. Entry levels position can lead to a "bored out syndrome" since you do repetitive stuff in excel etc all day, higher positions are more interesting and diverse.

Gleichberechtigung

A lot of woman working at wayfair, but when it comes to management there are more men. There is a woman leadership meeting where you can learn from female managers.
I personally never felt disadvantaged because of my gender.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Only very few colleagues over 45. Wayfair should hire more senior and experienced people.

Arbeitsbedingungen

The office is an open space, for me it was often difficult to focus because you always hear whats going on around you, people walking by, speaking on the phone etc. , so better get some good headphones.
Desks and chairs are not the best for sitting 8+ hours a day, provided computer was very good.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

There is a green club that tries to promote recycling, but there is a lot of trash at the end of the day that is not separated. Lights and computers are on all the time, so not the best eco awareness.
From a social point of view they offer you help with Krankenkasse and Betriebliche Altersvorsorge, but that all does no cover the general bad social behavior. (mass firings, overhours, pressure)

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Salaries differ a lot on your position, entry level payments are very low, especially because overhours are unpaid.
The offer some interesting bonuses.

Image

The image to outsiders must be very good since people walking by the office see hip young people drinking beer together in the evening or smoking and chatting during the day.
But when you tell relatives or friends "I am working at wayfair" you will have to explain what is is because nobody knows this online shop.
The image amongst the colleagues is more negative than positive.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

The internal courses are a nice offer, but most of the content was not very useful. If you want to teach yourself new stuff to be promoted or to extend you skill set you will have to do it on your own.
You learn what you need for doing your job but not more.
After you did an internship well it is likely that they give you a contract for a year or so. (but very few unlimited contracts).
